remember the scene in “Saving Private Ryan” where some German SS guys were pretending to be Polish, and of course the US soldiers shouted at them, “there are no Poles in the SS”.

That was in the HBO series, "Band of Brothers", not "Saving Private Ryan."

You’re right, I still get confused sometimes between the two, with regards to the Normandy scenes.
