On the contrary, if Cheney keeps this up, he will be a shoe-in for the nomination, if he chose to run (which is unlikely). And unlike Bush, Cheney defends himself with stiff uppercuts and deadly choke holds on his opponents.

I said that Cheney cannot win the election.

I said nothing of the nomination. Winning one does not mean you can possibly win the other.

America loves a fighter.

America may love a fighter, but they did not love Dick Cheney after eight years of the Bush Administration and vilification by liberals and moderates in both parties. America went as far away from the policies of the Bush Administration as they possibly could.

There are few candidates that would fire up the base like Cheney can. And even fewer with the debating skills and knowledge base to stuff Obama’s head up his marxist arse.

The anti-Cheney won the 2008 nomination for the republicans. And now we have a marxist in the oval orifice.

America will be sick of Obama after four years as well, esp. when his domestic policies start kicking in and affecting our day-to-day lives. We had it pretty good under Bush/Cheney, and when Americans are hit where it's "real" to them, the eight years of vilification will be seen for what it was: a political contrivance, substance-free, gas. Pelosi's recent problems may be the first green shoots of optimism to that end.

The sad part is, we will need to (and I believe will) endure a chilling winter of recession, possibly even depression, before this becomes fully apparent. And in the meantime, the other side will not be "wasting a crisis." So it will be an uphill battle, but for different reasons than you envision.
