Editorial: You did it! Uh, so what now?

Good morning, California voters. Do you feel better, now that you've gotten that out of your system?

You wanted to show the state's politicians just how mad you are at them. And you did. Boy, did you ever.

Proposition 1A with its taxes and its spending limit? Too much of one and not enough of the other, you said (or was it the other way around), and voted it down. Never mind that the taxes go into efffect anyway. You showed 'em.

Proposition 1B? That was a tougher call.

Proposition 1C? No way. You like the lottery just like it is. And all they were going to do with that extra $5 billion was spend it.

Propositions 1D and 1E? Forget it. You had already voted to put money into preschool and mental health programs. You're not taking it out now.

And 1F? Heck, yeah! Let's not pay our legislators if they can't pass a budget on time. So what if it likely won't have any effect, or that this year they actually passed a budget months earlier than they needed to? That's not the point.

The point is that you're sick and tired of all this political mumbo-jumbo. So you showed those politicians who's in charge. You. You're now officially in charge – of a state that will be something like $25 billion in the hole for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

So, now that you've put those irksome politicians in their place, maybe it's time to think about this: Since you're in charge, exactly what do you intend

...That sounds a lot like work, you say? Sorry, no whining allowed. You asked for this job. Now you've got it, so get on it. Oh, and remember. The entire nation is watching to see how you do now that you're in charge.

CA spend $9 Billion a year on illegal aliens. Without them, we would have a good credit rating and balanced budget in a few years.

Compassion ends when state workers get fired to pay for illegal aliens.

The Bee endorsed every measure on that ballot!

Here's the editor's laundry list of cliches to explain what went wrong yesterday:

Not just simple reforms, such as requiring only a majority vote to pass a budget, but larger ones, too: more transparency in the Legislature and the Governor's Office; less ballot-box budgeting; more accountable schools, cities, counties and special districts; modernized and more efficient government, including pay and benefits for the reality of life in the 21st century. In other words, make Californians feel they are getting their money's worth from the governments they pay for.

He just don't get it -- do he?

It's gone, with this explanation:

Note to our readers: Many of the comments below refer to an article that was posted in error. That article was a draft prepared for internal discussion among members of The Bee's editorial board. Such discussions are a routine part of our work, and frequently lead to editorials that are considerably different from writers' first drafts.

That's what happened in this case. After discussion, we decided that our initial editorial about the special election should take a different tack. The result was the editorial that now appears on this page. This editorial is the only editorial about the special election that appeared in Wednesday's editions of The Bee.

David Holwerk, Editorial Page Editor, The Sacramento Bee

BWAHAHAHA! They are SOOOO busted!

Somebody please make sure this gets into an archive, somewhere!

Somehow..., I have a mental image of the author as the pudgy little kid who stomped out of my third grade classroom swearing that he was going to hold his breath until he died (because his "Brilliant" ideas had been rejected by his classmates)!

They changed the title and rewrote the editorial.
Apparently their readers were not pleased. (No wonder!)

The reality is that, the voters out there caused all the problems which the state is now having.

Sure, the legislators and the governor run the government, but, who elected the idiots in the first place? California voters brought all those problems upon themselves.

I suspect that California's elections are similar to those at a national level - the choices of candidates dwindles to 2 or 3 drones, both from the left, the only difference being one has a "D" next to his name and the other, an "R". In these situations, it's impossible to NOT choose a poor candidate.

To put it in perspective, look at our national Presidential election last November - we ultimately ended up with a choice between a socialist with no economic sense and a marxist/fascist with a desire to destroy the country. The marxist won, but given the previous behavior of the socialist, that selection would have proven problematic as well.

When only idiots are running for office, one would expect that only idiots will win elections.

Let me add this - the left-wing media is, and has been going out of its way to make sure that no viable, reasonable candidate can get elected. Look at how they treated Sarah Palin. Look at how they treated 'Joe the Plumber'. Look at how they treat the million folks that organized and/or attended the April 15 tea parties.

Now compare that tho how they're treating Obama. It's obvious to most anybody that the press is primarily the PR arm of the DNC. As such, it is exceedingly difficult for even a moderately conservative candidate to get elected especially in larger cities like Sacramento where the press is in lockstep with the local freeloader population.

>Compassion ends when state workers get fired to pay for illegal aliens.<

I get madder than heck when I hear about budget problems and remember what happened with Prop 187.

I know we need to drastically reduce the size and reach of government, but putting illegal aliens before our native born/naturalized citizens is wrong.

Maybe I could have more sympathy for the illegals if they were all trying to assimilate, but too many of them want to remain loyal to their country of origin or turn our country into whatever 3rd world Krapistan they came from. I suppose a lot of legal immigrants have that mindset as well, which is why, IMO, all immigration should be more restricted.

Weren’t the 9/11 guys all here on student visas or something?

The &*shats in government don’t care about us. I’m not angry at illegal aliens so much as I am our elected officials who dump all over us and wreck our country for a vote.

If the borders were as they should be, and laws were stricter and actually enforced, they wouldn’t be coming in droves. Our government is to blame for that.

I love my country, but I hate the government for ruining it.
