Obviously, Joe Klein types his columns with his feet.

You gotta admit, it would explain a whole lotta things...

I’m 38 now, my accident occurred somewhere around 1993. I’ve had two surgeries on my neck in the same area already and am trying to avoid S1-L5-4 fusion also. I don’t know how long I’ll be able to hold out, but that surgery bothers me to even think about.

A solid 3 months off of work would be so nice, but under entirely different circumstances and while being paid of course.

well, we can all dream can’t we?

So, got any options for that?

BTW, nice BSing with you...

I know a woman a bit younger than you in the same situation vis-a-vis a lumbar surgery. She has successfully avoided it, so far. In fact, she says the low back pain has almost gone, after about 3 years. She now has upper back pain, probably from compensation. She has three kids under 10 and she and her husband are dairy farmers. She doesn’t milk much, anymore, but still will do some if there is a need.

I know an RN who has had 3 failed lumbar surgeries, also due to an auto accident. Finally, they offered her a morphine pump. But that would mean she can no longer work as an RN. She is simply putting up with it. After about 5+ years, she says, too, that the pain is *manageable*.

If it were me (God forbid, please), I would do the surgery only when the situation was such that I was risking paralysis without it. At 66, I have relatively minor low back pain and sciatica the I manage with heat, stretching, avoiding long periods of sitting and massage. I hate all the pain and muscle relaxant meds, but I do take an occasional Advil.

It’s awful. There are no good options. If you can deal, then do so, IMO. But I know nothing, really. I am a retired medical massage therapist who still does client intake and education and my husband, who is the same, but with advanced certifications, is still practicing. He gets the patients who (as the physicians put it) have *failed* all other treatments. So, we see a lot of worse case folks. My second husband (deceased) was a C5-C6 quad for 13 years. Paralysis is worse than pain, IMO. And the long-term spinal cord injured will tell you they still have pain, too. It is just different, but it is there.

But sometimes we have no choices at all. I know about those drunk or just plain inattentive and inexperienced drivers. At least my late husband’s was insured.

God Bless.

That’s just so low and totally uncalled for, but what do we expect from a leftist?

It means Charlie Kraut has been kicking their behinds for years and they cannot beat him. That is what it means. Pure jealousy and frustration.

There’s no way a conservative could get away with a comment like that.

In a sane and just world, no one would get away with such utter stupidity.  He won't be challenged as long as he's whispering sweet nothings into Chris Matthews' ear.  Joe Klein is a dirtbag who finds himself smack dab in the middle of the political movement that prides itself as the culture of death.
