Defeat is sharp rebuke to governor, Legislature

As expected, California voters were rejecting a package of ballot measures in Tuesday's special election that would have reduced the state's projected budget deficit of $21.3 billion to something slightly less overwhelming: $15.4 billion, early returns showed.
The defeat of the measures means that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the state Legislature will have to consider deeper cuts to education, public safety, and health and human services, officials have said.
Propositions 1A through 1E were being defeated in early returns. Those measures seek to change the state's budgeting system, ensure money to schools in future years and generate billions of dollars of revenue for the state's general fund.
The only measure voters were approving was Proposition 1F, which would freeze salaries of top state officials including lawmakers and the governor, was the only measure that was leading in early results.
Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, who help broker a budget deal in February that resulted in the ballot measures, said Tuesday that voter rejection of the propositions reflects the fact that people are facing difficult economic times and he is prepared to return to the budget negotiating table today.

deeper cuts in education, health and safety???? how about bloated state union pensions, illegal alien services, stem cell research, high speed trains, and all the other crap they waste money on.
I hate government.
“...all the other crap they waste money on...”

Like “education”, “health” and “safety”.
Darrell Steinberg is the most self-deluded dude in the CA state legislature...and that’s saying a lot.
Well now Ah-Nold can hardly wait for the 0bamaMessiah to come and bail out Kalifornia and then the usual orgy of reckless spending can resume.
Yeah! California is learning! You must take the money away from those who spend it recklessly. An intervention has been long coming.
What CA needs is a slash and burn policy on government largesse to unions public and private sectors, schools, state governing boards (which are the perks for retired legislators and their cronies) . Cut, cut, cut.
Oh well....let's face it....we don't live in the 19th century anymore. Since we now live in a society totally conditioned to live in slavery to the whims of our rulers, might as well make the best of it.
Go with the flow.....
Go along to get along...
Baaaaa!
It’s too bad. California needed the money to support Mexico and California. Now, they’ll probably only have enough to support Mexico and half of California.
A long time ago, when people said “California is at the forefront”, they meant at the forefront of the tax revolt that led to Prop. 13. These days they usually mean at the forefront of completely unrealistic emissions standards and crackpot environmental and social schemes. Maybe today’s vote marks the beginning of a return to sanity.

You just don’t get it, do you...this is how the system works. You cut the things that will hurt the most people the worst, first. Then, they will come begging for tax increases! :)
That's the proper attitude.
That's being rather generous. I kinda took it to mean a big F^*@%$! you.
This defeat isn’t sharp enough a rebuke of these Socialists in my opinion. Hopefully, the voters will send them a clearer message during the next election. Vote Them All Out.
A special rebuke to the legislature!
Arnie is just there puppet!
Voters are fickle. When it comes to voting out the CA D’kats, that’s another matter. The liberal machine of gays, abortionists, feminists, unionists, Silicon Valley and Hollywood money, Third World immigrants, and ACORN all coalesce to keep these thieves in office.
That's the proper attitude.
And politicians!
Until every last Liberal Democrat, (that means all of them), and every RINO is flushed from office, the Ruling Elite will get their pound of flesh.
If this doesn't wake up the Electorate, nothing will. Rejecting these Propositions is only the first step. Let's see if anyone learned that Liberalism does not make a State, or a Country, run like the Utopian Vision they had imagined.
A special rebuke to the legislature!
Arnie is just there puppet!
