AL ASAD An elite group of Iraqi Soldiers stand ready to spring into action against terrorism and insurgency here. Al Anbar's 9th Battalion, Iraqi Special Operations Forces (ISOF) have one mission; to keep the people of Iraq safe. To stay prepared for this mission, they spend their days training and working with U.S. Special Operations Forces advisors to continually sharpen their skills.
"Iraq is so spread out you can't control it from one location," said an Iraqi lieutenant. "Each province has teams to execute high value missions."
These missions can range from presence patrols to fast-roping during pitch-black night to capturing suspected terrorists anywhere in the region.
Though many dangerous missions may come their way, the ISOF Soldiers are aware of the risks and are willing to protect their country.
"[The Soldiers] know the dangers of the job," the Iraqi lieutenant said. "But they trust themselves, their weapons and each other."
This ability to face danger is crucial in battling those who would try to stand in the way of peace in Iraq.
"There are some high-value targets [out there]," said the lieutenant. "And we are the medicine to cure that problem."

That’s exciting, SandRat. Much success to them.
This is too cool. I mean, it’s really something watching the birth of a country.
Lets hope they don’t turncoat..
Nah, too many of them hate Saddamm and hate what he did. You might as well have been a new patriot worrying that the continental army is going to turn to the British and re-enslave America under British rule.
