When Michael S. Steele took over as chairman of the Republican National Committee earlier this year, he brought along longtime personal assistant Belinda Cook and gave her a salary nearly three times what her predecessor made.
Mrs. Cook's son, Lee, also landed an RNC job.
Mr. Steele hired another family friend, Angela Sailor, to be the party's outreach director at a salary of $180,000, more than double her predecessor's compensation, though new responsibilities have been added to the job, according to a high-ranking RNC official and Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.
Mr. Steele's early record and personnel decisions figure to be hot topics at a special meeting of Republican state party chairmen Tuesday and Wednesday at National Harbor in Washington's Maryland suburbs. His hiring of friends and the salaries he is paying them already helped to instigate a struggle over who controls the party's purse strings, one that forced the new party chairman to relinquish some control to elected RNC members.

How to turn the RNC into ACORN in 2 easy lessons.....
Not a dime. I will tell the next caller that it is time to quit calling me. I will be mentioning this to local party officers.
This guy has to go.We are running out of time.
Except that ACORN is (unfortunately) effective.
I want to hear more before I decide.
I do not trust the media in this regard. Where are the exposes on salaries of Democrat Committee appointees, ACORN, etc.? If the Left can find a way to hamstring contributions, then they would certainly do it.
I need much more information that this article to make me stop supporting conservative Republican candidates.
You’d think that these people would be educated enough that they wouldn’t shoot themselves in the foot at every turn. Most of the whole party needs to look long and deep into a mirror, there is a massive leadership void in the party now—oh, and they all need to take some marketing classes.
Come on, Mr. Steele is just spreading the wealth around.
Michael “Steal” is done. I don’t think he survives this. Weren’t there allegations that he misused funds from his campaign to make questionable payments to cronies?
“I want to hear more before I decide.”
This in itself is not enough, but recall that Steele has also
1. Attacked Conservatives like Limbaugh prior to going after Dems
2. Hs said “abortion is a choice”. Eafter saying this, even Ken Blackwell says Steele needs to reread the GOP platform, the US Constitution and the Bible.
3. Wants to open up the big tent for anyone, without regard to sacrificing any core priniples.
We want this guy??
I let the caller asking for $$ have a piece of my mind the other day and told her no way until Steele is gone.
Just another RINO building its empire.
thanks; ping
Unless your are supporting the "conservative Republican candidates" by sending your money directly to them, in all likelihood they are not seeing a penny of it.
I support the conservative candidates of my choice by contributing directly to them, not the RNC, RSC, RCC etc.
"Not one penny."
I can tell you a first hand story. I just ran for Rahm Emanuel’s seat in Chicago. The election was April 7th.
The RNC would not give me 1 dime. I won the GOP primary beating out 5 guys!
While they would not give me money, they did try to raise money for themselves OFF MY BACK. They placed ROBO calls into my district asking folks if they where voting for me, asked for money and then said they were not part of my campaign.
I could have won the district. I got over 10,000 votes and my opponent got 30,000. With a little money to send out mailers and inform folks of a Special Election, I would have had a chance.
I had words with some secretary. She kept putting me off. SO I said to her I guess I will have to call the leader of the party :Rush Limbaugh THAT really ticked her off and she started whining.
Well He can give a staff member money, but a candidate (Conservative) can go to hell?? And you will try to raise money for your outfit in my name?
I report, YOU decide!!
GOP is rotten from head down.
So if you like spoiled fish you’ll like the GOP.
I was a real fan of Steele until his Limbaugh smartass comment.
See Ya, Mickey.
The longer this goes on and the closer it gets to the 2010 elections before this is handled, the worse it will be. Get rid of him now, let the media have its heyday over it for a couple of weeks, then move on with a competent chairman.
