This is part of the further attempt by the Democrats and their media allies (AP) to wedge Catholics on this issue.
The editorial in L’Osservatore Romano is from the April 29th edition. In other words, AP has dug out an old editorial (the same basis, in some ways, for Time’s similar take on No Shame U)and make it headline news the day after the NSU debacle but without disclosing the time lag.
The OR editorial was a review of Obama’s first 100 days in office. OR does not official speak for either the pope or the curia.
In the interim, since this editorial appeared, Archbishop Burke made his speech in Washington. I imagine that to some degree his speech was a response, a correction, to this clueless OR editorial. But of course, the AP writers are clueless about all of that.
Here’s John Allen’s take:

But now, since AP and Time have tried to use the OR editorial to wipe the floor with pro-life Catholics, the ball is in Burkes and Benedict’s court. They need to come out with a blistering attack on Obama.
But of course, even should they do that, it will be ignored by AP and Time and the rest of the Obama-worshipping press.
But they need to do it anyway.
If FOCA fails to pass, nothing would change. So its purpose is not to “protect a woman’s right to choose”. It’s purpose is to take choice away from Catholic Hospitals.

Thanks for posting!!!
If I ever met Obama I would ask him if he could find common ground with Frederick Douglass.
Douglass wrote and lectured for a lifetime on the Fact that a Human Being cannot be the property of another Human Being.
This is exactly the pro-Life argument. The new human being in the womb is NOT the Property of its mother. A person is not a thing.
