Ventura Takes Shots At Torture, Coleman
Star-Tribune ^ | 5/18/09 | Bob von Sternberg

Posted on 05/18/2009 1:08:52 PM PDT by steve-b

Continuing his book promotion media tour, former Gov. Jesse Ventura today resumed his blunt criticism of the Bush administration's interrogation policies and took another shot at former Sen. Norm Coleman.

Appearing on ABC's "The View" talk show this morning, Ventura called the waterboarding of suspected terrorists "torture."

"If this country follows the rule of law -- which we do -- torture is against the law," he said, adding, "I'm ashamed of my country."...

He was less harsh about Minnesota's still-unresolved Senate race than he was last week when he called Coleman "a hypocrite."

"It appears [Al] Franken won," he said, contending that when the state Supreme Court rules on the election results "it should end there."

Ventura also renewed his call for legalizing marijuana, something he advocated as long ago as 1998, when he was running for governor....

James/Jim Janos; Ventura’s real name, was a UDT not a SEAL. A difference with a distinction. He’s been forced to recant his numerous claims that he was a SEAL.

He was on TV the other night wearing a “US Navy SEAL” sweatshirt with the SEAL logo, criticizing Cheney.

I can't say if he referred to himself as one of those guys who "were in Viet Nam with the SEALS." But on several occasions he's alluded to being in the SEAL team undercover, here and there, including VN. He had a TV show where he had some Viet Vets on and even these guys were fakes.
Jesse made a lot of money being the "color commentator" on the briefly televised Xtreme Football League, (I think that was it's name) and can now operate anywhere on the interest of the money the league paid him.

I didn't see the show, but the author of the article pretty much claims he did, although, he didn't provide the quote. Here's the relevant excerpt from the article:

He spent most of Monday's appearance weighing in on the political debate over torture, saying he's qualified to speak on the topic because he was waterboarded himself during his Navy SEAL training in the 1970s.

Just watched part of the interview on you tube:
Elisabeth Hasslebeck:...you were waterboarded as part of your Navy SEAL training, correct?

Jesse Ventura: Yes, well it wasn't part of Navy SEAL training. it was part of what they called SERES school..survival, escape, resistance, evasion..it's a, it's a school they required you to go to prior to the combat zone in Viet Nam, and yes, we were all waterboarded there and yes it is torture.

Keep in mind, the video doesn't start form the beginning of the interview, so there's some talk missing prior to what I transcribed. He doesn't admit to being a SEAL, but he certainly gives one the impression that he represents himself as such, along with giving the idea that he was in Nam, although, again, he doesn't directly state it. He didn't go out of his way to deny either though...

Here's a link to the video:

It was a Ventura stooge and stand-in, an idiot by the name of Dean Barkley, that took 18 percent of the vote that cost Coleman the election. The Libertarian candidate additionally siphoned 16,000 votes away from Coleman. Sickening.

You are wrong. The Independence Party is only liberal on social issues. Barkley took more votes from Coleman than from Franken. RATS always vote for RATS. Your Libertarian candidate additionally cost Coleman 16,000 votes.

Impossible. Franken severely underperformed Obama, whereas Coleman’s totals were fairly close to McCain’s. Also, look at the Senate race from two years ago; Klobuchar wiped the floor with Mark Kennedy. DFLers outnumber GOPers in this state, and win most elections. When Republicans do win a statewide election, they usually include a strong third party showing.

Elisabeth Hasselback was just embarrassing. She’s so lightweight that if she took her shoes off she’d float away.

That is not possible. Coleman only owns one vote -- his own -- to begin with; ergo, nothing (e.g. a felony conviction) could ever cost him more than that.

Norm Coleman lost to Ventura, and to Al Franken.

I think that’s a sign that Norm picked the wrong career, or at least the wrong state.
