The Republican Party has scarcely begun to repair a wound that threatens to confine it to minority status: its 2006 collapse among Hispanic voters.
Driven by some Republicans sharp attacks on illegal immigration and as many Hispanics perceived it, immigrants in general Latino voters fled the GOP en masse in the midterm elections, then turned on John McCain, as well.
. . . . .
There are stirrings of a Republican response. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has spoken with Hispanic leaders about creating a new organization to back Latino candidates. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has made minority outreach a priority at the RNC. And some Republicans see an opening if Obama continues to defer action on overhauling immigration.
. . . . .
A spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Brian Walsh, said that candidate recruitment for 2010 is still under way and noted that Martinez himself had endorsed Crist, in part for his moderate stance on immigration.
But Graham, who said he sympathized with the Senate Republican leaderships decision to back a candidate with a good chance of winning, also raised concerns about the Florida decision.
The key for our party is to have Hispanic candidates to carry our banner, Graham said. I dont blame them for trying to make sure we dont lose another seat in Florida. But at the same time, clearly Mr. Rubio is the type of person who would lead our party in Florida and the country to a new level.
Graham said hes considering forming a political action committee, or some other entity, aimed at recruiting strong Hispanic Republican candidates.

Are they still here?
The current crop of illegals, if granted amnesity, will just be torpedoed by the next crop of illegals willing to work at lower wages.
Without border enforcement and internatl enforcement, all the arguments for amnesity just fall apart.
LOL that’s about the size of it.

That is it exactly...so the more illegal Mexicans the more it grows the welfare state....we are toast...
“The Republicans need to look at how the Latino votes in Mexico. Thats how they will vote here, for the most part. In Mexico, they vote for anyone that states that they will take care of them.”
Wouldn’t it make more sense to look at why Protestant Hispanics fall outside of your theory?
Core Obama constituencies (groups where it would help Republicans to make inroads):
13% of voters-African-Americans: 95% for Obama
3% of voters-Jews: 78% for Obama
18% of voters-Persons aged 18-29: 66% for Obama
9% of voters-Latinos: 67% for Obama
2% of voters-Asians: 62% for Obama
Can someone explain to me how a group like American Jews would vote for a guy who wants to buddy up to a holocaust denier?

As they try to shut Mario Rubio out of the election process in FL. The GOP is the stupid party.
Not really. I don’t equate which religion controls their politics and how they vote. Not any more than I want people to look at me that way. Regardless of my religion, I vote the way I want and my views for my country and it’s well being.
Graham won his election against despite being strongly in favor of a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants against a anti-immigrant Democrat no less. McCain won the Republican nomination even though his candidacy was declared all but dead because of his support for comprehensive immigration reform. How far did Hunter and Tancredo get?
Yet, you would hold their country of origin against them.
If you mistakenly think that the question has something to do with being born Hispanic then you shouldn't even waste your time on this kind of thread.
It clearly is not about the "Hispanic" vote, because it is only Catholic Hispanics that we have the problem with.
In 2004 the Republicans got 56% of the Protestant Hispanic vote, in 2008 the Republicans got 48% of the Protestant Hispanic vote, the answer to our (perceived) Hispanic problem lies somewhere within that little known information.
No one is trying to destroy your culture. All that is asked is that you respect that of Latinos. Is that too much to ask?
Hispanics are the future of America. There can be no denying that. If the GOP does not move to win them over quickly and by any means necessary, it is done as a viable political party.
Ha Ha Ha When EXACTLY was this Ace??? Suggestion lay off the Tequila before you come in here.
Most conservatives will still support the GOP regardless if the GOP supports a pathway to citizenship. Those one issue fringe voters who leave the party will not be missed and their numbers will be up for elsewhere. They will no longer have any representation whatsoever and will have no one to blame but themselves and their own intolerant beliefs.
The GOP obviously has a lot of work to do.
