SOUTH BEND, Ind.President Barack Obama confronted the issue of abortion head on Sunday at Notre Dame, acknowledging that differences over the issue are largely irreconcilable but issuing a plea to those on both sides to tone down harsh rhetoric and search for common ground he believes is possible.
I do not suggest that the debate surrounding abortion can or should go away, Obama said. No matter how much we may want to fudge it indeed, while we know that the views of most Americans on the subject are complex and even contradictory the fact is that at some level, the views of the two camps are irreconcilable, he told graduates.
Each side will continue to make its case to the public with passion and conviction. But surely we can do so without reducing those with differing views to caricature.
Obamas 20-minute commencement address marked his most direct remarks on abortion as president and he delivered them at the nations flagship Catholic university, where his appearance sparked protests. But while he often drew on his personal experiences to make his points and highlight his respect for Catholicism, Obama never substantively addressed why he believes a woman has the right to abortion.
Still, it wasnt long into his speech before Obama touched on the issue that has defined his commencement invitation. He asked in a rhetorical way a constitutional law professor in him coming out - how people can adhere to principles and fight for what they believe in, without demonizing those with just as strongly held convictions on the other side, Obama said:
Nowhere do these questions come up more powerfully than on the issue of abortion.
Obamas speech was all about the rhetoric.

This guy is scary sick.
May God forgive that evil bastard that ACORN vote fraud put into the White House.
Fair? How about this Hussein? Hey Hussein, do you understand THIS?

MASSIVE BARF. When the President of ND spoke it sounded like both a Democrat convention as well as an Obama convention. I am ill. This whole thing disgusts me on multiple levels. Notre Dame and many of her graduates, their parents, faculty, and obviously their president all belong to just another liberal university no different than any others in America. Mother Mary, the use of the word Catholicism, God’s principles etc, and Jesus are just lies, deception, and hypocrisy. This day has clarified to me how completely wayward much of American Catholicism is. I am sick.
Damn,I am tired of that lie.
All I’ve heard as I’ve switched over from the ball game was “Right wing ideologues”.
The people on the "other side" HAVE NO CONVICTIONS.....
....That is where his argument falls apart.
Their belief is that there is nothing right or wrong. That is not conviction, it is liberal hog wash.
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment

Looks to me like he has an issue with his downward head movement.
Either that or he is an above all elitist who craves personal power.
And to think that all this time the far left and Democrats had us believing that Bush was the most divisive president ever....oh, the irony.
He talks without saying anything, like Clinton did. Both are douche bags.

I hope his kidneys fail. LOL.... That is soooooo funny!
“a constitutional law professor in him
Damn,I am tired of that lie.”
You and me both ,He is nothing but a Filthy Communist.
It is his record on abortion 100% in support of abortion as well as importing it world wide, but also his massive attack on the Godly on Christian religions with his many enactments of laws etc against the holy, and the religious, believers, and the Jewish people in Israel. The fact that this man was both given an honorary degree at Notre Dame as well as a platform for his deceptions and such support has shown how lost this country has become. Very sad. I am so happy many fought against this and will continue to.
What is scary sick is that the vast majority at ND and Catholics in general support and love the guy. I want to puke.
He asked in a rhetorical way a constitutional law professor in him coming out - how people can adhere to principles and fight for what they believe in, without demonizing those with just as strongly held convictions on the other side, Obama said:”
And yet he laughs when Sykes jokes that she hopes that Limbaugh’s kidneys fail? And what about that hack on his staff that suggested that the Obummer’s name their dog “Ms. California”?
When the dean spoke of how Catholics support pro life issues, I noticed very few applauded. Most stayed seated behind him.
Yes. Me too. Continued prayers and actions where we are called. The path is narrow and I too am deeply saddened and sick.
