To: Mrs. Don-o

This is, I know, a stupid question. Why would they arrest peaceful demonstrators? Don’t we have the right to protest, as long as it is non-violent? Or is it automatically trespass if you’re doing something at what I assume is a private university that the university doesn’t like?

I don't know all the details, but I think legally that if they give you a warning ("the administration here wants you off the property"), they can arrest you if you don't get off immediately. If they don't give you a warning, it's probably a different story.

In any case, a Catholic University has no business (morally) arresting a Catholic priest for coming on the property and praying. For Christ's sake.
