Gingrich: Pelosi 'Lied,' 'Despicable,' 'Dishonest,' 'Vicious,' 'Trivial'
ABC ^ | May 15, 2009 | Elizabeth Turrell and Steven Portnoy

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich today offered a blistering critique of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s handling of oversight on harsh interrogation tactics, in a major escalation of partisan attacks being aimed at Pelosi.

In an interview with ABC News Radio’s Marcus Wilson, Gingrich, R-Ga., said Pelosi, D-Calif., “has lied to the House” in claiming that she was never briefed by the CIA about the Bush administration’s use of waterboarding and other harsh tactics.

"I think she has lied to the House, and I think that the House has an absolute obligation to open an inquiry, and I hope there will be a resolution to investigate her. And I think this is a big deal. I don't think the Speaker of the House can lie to the country on national security matters,” Gingrich said.

He continued: "I think this is the most despicable, dishonest and vicious political effort I've seen in my lifetime."

"She is a trivial politician, viciously using partisanship for the narrowist of purposes, and she dishonors the Congress by her behavior."

"Speaker Pelosi's the big loser, because she either comes across as incompetent, or dishonest. Those are the only two defenses,” Gingrich said. “The fact is she either didn't do her job, or she did do her job and she's now afraid to tell the truth.”

Nothing will come of this, the MSM and her libtard friends will cover for her.

Yes they will, but if all the Republicans spoke as forthrightly as Newt did, the Democrats wouldn't get away with EVERYTHING. Some of the truth would seep into the public consciousness, My Friend™.

I will be extremely surprised if anything will be done. King Obama rules and the only thing that might caused him to throw Pelosi under the bus is if something comes down hard on him and he needs to a diversion..

We’re sorry Ms. Pelosi, you can’t plead the fifth amendment. You had that repealed last week.

I would like to know why a Pelosi “aide” would be getting CIA briefings. Do they have such high security clearances that they can have that information. And if Pelosi is not able to discuss these briefings with anyone, how does she obtain the information for the aide. Is this possible for “aides” to get briefings?

“You are right, it’s gaining momentum.”

As a thought experiment, let us, adults that we are or try to be, mentally turn the “it’s only been 120 days” meme on its head.

Someone like Maxine Waters, she’s a full-on loon, but nobody ever pretended she was anything but a loon. So there’s no possible shock value there, no matter what she does. Barney Frank, another goofball, obviously (again, to any sort of adult or quasi-adult) helped foster massive damage in the financial system. But in his case, it takes those scarce collections of multiple functioning neurons on the part of the cult followers to assemble the CRA-Fannie Mae-mortgage fraud datapoints into the coherent conclusion of who and why and how this transpired, and it took many years to turn into a fetid mess. Murtha insulted the troops, but many, many folks on both the left and right opposed Iraq then and oppose it now. And, it again took a while (on a litigation time-frame) from his vile accusations to the revelation that he was full of s**t. Again, it took attention span to assemble the neurons into alignment, and, it was kind of one-by-one that the marines were exonerated. Diffuse result. Conversely, those who believe our marines are vicious murderers don’t trust military courts to objectively try them in the first place. “Cover up”, right?

In a nation where maybe 30% of the people interviewed can actually name the vice president...judging by the “man on the street” deals we’ve seen and on Hannity....nobody except folks in their own states know who the hell the like of Waters, Frank, and Murtha are. I know you don’t think I am excusing their egregious behavior, I’m not. But that behavior, rotten as it is, is too complex, spans too much time, and is too diffuse to shock those wandering neurons into alignment.

Now with Pelosi, she embarassed herself so rapidly, in such a short time, and looked like a cornered rat on the TeeVee. If you missed all six (7?) of her positions, you could see she was a liar by seeing only three of them. She also created a serious enemy for herself by calling out CIA by name. Here, we have the elements of potential neural assemblage. Compared to the deeds of the others, this was an MTV music video in terms of rapidity and repetitiveness of impression. And this why we see the story on her buried 18 pages deep in the NY Times. We see the attempt by the DBM to suck the headlines about her way off the front page. Hmmm.

So. This was and is a real credibility collapse, all at once. As such, it could create a deep enough wound so that it at least starts a ball rolling somewhere. Obviously, I agree with you that the record is not good on these types of things gaining legs, but in this case, maybe we are on to something. I’m hopeful. My bottom line: Let’s give it some time.

I don't know if they would have the clearance high enough to do that..I wouldn't think she would..I am sure she was completely checked out by CIA before she got the job in Washington but would not think she should be entitled to that kind of information but we never know, look what we have in Washington today a bunch of criminals that are still working to destroy our country..Maybe she is a hold over from the Clinton years when no one had a clearance to work there..

That's my question.
As I understand the Pelosi aide got the info from another insider aide and passed it on to Pelosi.
That alone should be investigated.

Bottom line, Pelosi knew waterboarding was taking place in 2003 and she kept her mouth shut.
At the very least she could have signed the protest letter Rep. Hartman sent to the admin. She didn't.

They feel invulnerable. That’s why Murtha can laugh about being corrupt, and Obama can pursue his communist agenda. They have unassailable majorities in both houses of Congress and dinosaur media sympathizers to cover for them. That’s why nothing has happened to them - and nothing will happen to them. Until a tsunami of public revulsion breaks over them - as it did in ‘94. Will it happen in ‘10? Dunno. But I so pray...
