The US government is waging a war on Capitalism at the moment in the way that it is dealing with the financial crisis, Charles Ortel, MD of Newport Value Partners said. His examples of this include the pressuring of BofA CEO Lewis to lie ahead of the Merrill Lynch deal.

Capitalism is fine, and the authorities are acting responsibly to prevent systemic meltdown in the financial system. That means forcing the strong to support the weak at times, and it means public intervention to prevent further defaults. All of the public mistakes in this crisis have been cases of not doing that enough, soon enough and consistently enough, not the reverse. Lehman was a mistake, B of A - Merrill emphatically was not. If instead Merrill were made Lehman II, in the fragile state the market then was in, we'd still be accelerating to the downside at double digit rates.
Facts are stubborn things. Blame game populist crap like this is stupid.
