Days before Japanese warplanes destroyed the U.S. Pacific fleet on Dec. 7, 1941, 80% of Americans did not want to go to war against either Germany or Japan. The day after the attacks, those numbers reversed themselves. It should always be noted that the American Left, funded and directed by the USSR, had been working the anti-war movement feverishly all through the 20's and 30's. Indeed, they were extremely active until there was an attack, but not Pearl Harbor. They changed 180 degrees when Hitler attacked Stalin. As more and more of the USSR was rolled up during the late summer of '41, they became extremely vocal supporters of going to war against Germany. Thus, the Left was quiet throughout WWII, not because they were American Patriots, but because they were loyal communists.
They immediately resurfaced as isolationists when the war ended and as vocal anti-war activists during Korea.

A perfect example of that is Soviet stooge; author Dalton Trumbo. He wrote a pacifist book, Johnny Get Your Gun, but when Hitler invaded the USSR, he was quite happy to cooperate with the FBI concerning isolationists he'd been in contact with.

They changed 180 degrees when Hitler attacked Stalin... Actually, it began earlier. The communist party in the US lost all traction when Stalin made the pact with Hitler and attacked Poland. At least that was the assessment from one of their leaders at the time. The anti-war sentiment started changing then, with the final flip occurring Dec. 7, 1941.
