Maryland man sentenced after riding bike 180 miles here for teen sex (to NE PA)
The Times-Tribune (Scranton PA) ^ | 5/14/09 | Erin L. Nissley

A man who rode his bicycle 180 miles to have sex with a Scranton teen he met on the Internet will serve one to four years in prison, a judge ruled Wednesday.

William Wagner, 26, 414 Battery Drive, Havre de Grace, Md., met the 15-year-old girl through the social networking Web site MySpace. In June, he biked to Scranton to meet the teen.

In February, Mr. Wagner pleaded guilty to unlawful contact with a minor.

He slept at Pine Brook baseball field, Sanderson Avenue and Green Place, while he was in Scranton. He took the teen to the baseball field and had intercourse with her there several times, police said.

After he left Scranton, the girl told her parents she had sex with Mr. Wagner, who reported it to police.

The Times-Tribune does not identify sexual assault victims.

The teen told police she considered herself to be "in a relationship" with Mr. Wagner at one time. He knew she was only 15, she told police.

"It was a peculiar set of circumstances, including that he rode his bike to meet her," said Deputy District Attorney Michelle Olshefski. "I think the sentence is very fitting. He acknowledged that he knew her age and what he did was wrong."

After serving his prison sentence, Mr. Wagner will have to register as a sex offender under the state's Megan's Law requirements for 10 years.

>> “If I Only Had a Brain?”

That too. I was thinking of the witch on her bicycle.

Adapted for real life, it might be:

“If I only had enough blood flow to supply the head that I should be thinking with”.

Coupling bicycling 150 miles with lust, 100% of this dude’s blood was below the waistline. He must’ve been quite a sight when he got there — looked like an Apache from the waist down and a retarded albino from the waist up.

You will not be doing a 20mph average with PA hills unless you are lance Armstrong....and maybe not even then.

Anybody know how many days it takes to bike 180 miles? I’m curious, and I don’t have a benchmark.

I did a "bike-a-thon" for charity once (I was about 15 years old at the time), and I rode my bike to the location (about 15 miles), then proceeded to ride 250 miles that day. By the end of the day, about 14 hours later, I was so tired and sore that I had to call my mother to pick me (and the bike) up for a ride home. I wasn't able to walk the next day.

Actually, now that I think about it, I must have only ridden 180 miles that day - I just saw a photo of the "patch" that I won, and it had "180 miles" on it... Amazing how the distance can multiply in only 32 years...

See now if you’d been 15, and she 26, you’d get some serious style points (actually, maybe not...since you’d only have been making the ride since you couldn’t drive yet!)

Had a good laugh when I re-read the title and saw “bike” though; when I first skimmed it I for some reason read it as “motorcycle”.

In all seriousness though, the guy’s a dirt bag, but does anyone think that girl didn’t know exactly what she was doing? Call me cynical, but I’m guessing the problem started 2-3 (hell, probably more) years ago with the upbringing of this myspace princess.

Sorry but I do not buy that this young woman was a “innocent child”, every thing she did, she willingly did on purpose. This young woman is old enough to get married.

I’ve heard of “walking a mile for a camel”, but this guy took it to the extreme.

One to four years? Is that enough to break the cycle?

more like "walking a mile for a camel toe", or in this case riding a bike for 180 miles for a camel toe...

I think the world record is just over 400 miles in 24 hours. I met a guy once who was training to break it but the ride day was so windy he only got about 300 miles done. A resonably good rider on a good bike can do 100 miles in a day. I’ve done about 15 200 mile/2 day trips.

I’m picturing this guy on a Wal-Mart Huffy bike, so it may have taken a few days.

However, when you’re riding alone for 180 miles, you have a lot of time to think and reflect on life. A whole lot of time to wonder what life in jail would be like if you got caught, realizing that you’re not going to outrun the cops on a bike, wondering how stupid and hard up you have to be to go chasing a 15 year old and taking her to a romantic getaway under the bleachers of a ball park.

4 years is way too short.

Hah - don't know!

Gotta admit, I want to see pics of both parties: 1) Was she worth 180 miles on a bicycle?, and 2) How fugly is he to have to work that hard to get it? Cuz we know he ain't got no money!

Lord I apologise to all them pygmies in Africa...
