Sanford smacked down CNN's Wolf Blitzer today and laid it on the line. He is for sustainable spending and is saying what all Republicans should be saying: we stand for sustainable, responsible fiscal conservatism. Government should pay down its debts and balance its budget just like every business and household in America should.

I had to laugh at the video clip of Sen. Leatherman, R-Florence, saying Sanford doesn't care at all about South Carolina and only cares about advancing his own career. Sanford is standing up for the principles that all Republicans at all levels of government should be standing up for. Leatherman is an unprincipled jackass who doesn't have a clue what it means to be a Republican.

To all you fair weather Republicans who claim to be Republicans because you side with us on social and cultural issues like abortion, gay marriage, etc., I give you the following quote from Ronald Reagan:

“We should emphasize the things that unite us and make these the only ‘litmus test’ of what constitutes a Republican: our belief in restraining government spending, pro-growth policies, tax reduction, sound national defense, and maximum individual liberty.” He continued, “As to the other issues that draw on the deep springs of morality and emotion, let us decide that we can disagree among ourselves as Republicans and tolerate the disagreement.

It's time to purge the not so fiscally conservative from the GOP. That's my litmus test. Get behind Sanford or get the hell out of my party.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with social conservatism but sick and tired of tolerating people masquerading as fiscal conservatives. Faith in fiscal conservatism without works is dead.

Would a Sanford-Palin or Palin-Sanford ticket be too much to hope for? Don't we have to have a RINO on the ticket to bring in the big campaign bucks and the squishy middle? That's what they say, anyway, and if it is true, I want the RINO at the bottom of the ticket.

The more I see and hear about Sanford, the more I like him. And that Reagan quote is so on the mark that I don’t even know where to start.

Among all the conservatives who said "Anybody who wants Obama to fail is an idiot" he is my #1 choice.

Among conservatives who don't think people who want Obama to fail are idiots, Jindal/Palin in the lead. Pence, Demint up there.

Extreme social conservatives tend to be statists as well of course. What we need to do is educate social conservatives on the principles of federalism. If they don’t agree, then we can say they’re not welcome in our federalist movement. I’m a social conservative for the most part but I’m a federalist first.

If Sanford continues to espouse real conservative policies between now and the time he leaves as governor, he will be in an excellent position to become the leading spokesman for the GOP. By then, the economy will really be in the crapper and the people will be sick of Obama and socialism.

I’m starting to believe more and more that this is going to be a repeat of the last half of the 1970s decade with Maobama playing Carter and Sanford playing Reagan.

This Louisiana boy is still partial to Mr. Jindal, though I confess Bobby has fallen off quite a bit since his GOP response to Obama went over like a lead balloon. I still think Huckabee is the best stump speaker and debater this party has.

Who the right man for 2012 is I don't know, but I do know this... all three that I just mentioned are proud Southerners and the GOP has never fielded a candidate from the South (sorry Texans), well at least one who daddy or granddaddy wasn't really old money (not to mention US Senator) from New England. It's time for the South to rise up and get the GOP back to its principles. It starts at the state and local level and Sanford and Jindal are leading the fight.

But the South is already solidly Republican... the catch is to find someone who isn't just socially conservative (a given in the South), but someone who can demonstrate they are a true fiscal conservative and demonstrate it through their works and not merely a profession of faith. This is Huckabee's greatest weakness and it's what Sanford and Jindal are trying to make their greatest strength. Now if only we could get Huck's preacher-man sales skills with Sanford's resume. Sanford stuttered badly at one point today on CNN... gotta get him coached up on his sales and speechgiving skills.

Amen, brother. I so wanted McCain or Palin to slap down any questions about gay marriage and abortion by saying "I'm running for President/Vice President and I believe those issues have always been settled at the state and local level, as our Founding Fathers intended. I support federalism and the rule of law, as decided by legislative bodies and the people and not by robed judges decreeing what they think the law ought to be."

It's time to return to federalism, the rule of law and states and the people reasserting their rights over the federal government and laws written from the bench. All conservatives and Republicans should agree on that much, however much we disagree on social and cultural issues.

Sanford/Palin 2012?

I'm no fan of Palin. I hope and pray that we find someone who doesn't fold like a tent with Katie Couric. We can do better and if we can't, we don't deserve to win. If Simon Cowell judged a show called American Politician, Palin wouldn't have made it to the Final 12. Sorry to rain on your parade. I'm sure my opinion is in the minority, but I just can't see the GOP ever winning with Palin on the ticket.

Rush Responds To Sanford Calling Him An Idiot

Feb 26, 2009

LIMBAUGH: I am told South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford called me an idiot, not by name. But he said, “Anyone who wants Obama to fail is an idiot.

” I don’t anybody else who said it. So, I guess he’s talking about– … Politicians have different audiences than I do and they’ve got to say things in different ways.

So, after he said, “Anyone who wants Obama to fail is an idiot,” then went on in his own way to say, “Gosh, I hope this doesn’t work.” … He just had to say, “We don’t want the president to fail.”

Hell we don’t! We want something to blow up here politically. We want something to not go right. … We’re talking about freedom that is under assault!

“I hope and pray that we find someone who doesn’t fold like a tent with Katie Couric.”

All you saw was the EDITING that CBS did to make Sarah Palin appear weak. Didn’t you watch the out-takes and the proof of the hatchet-job they did on her? It was available to anyone with a computer.

But, if you can find me a female as tough as Palin and even HALF as Conservative and Sanford puts her on the ticket, I’ll vote for him.

I’m not a woman who will vote for a woman no matter who she *cough*Hillary*cough* is. :)

John Zigler’s DVD on how the editing on CBS & ABC like photoshoping the interview with Gov. Palin.

Only the Far Left, the Gov. Palin bashers still like to push the interview.

Gov. Palin gave her speech at the convention off the cuff
as the teleprompter broke at the beginning.

Sanford mumbles, speaks like a funeral director.
He could never draw the crowds and energize them the way
Gov. Palin did.

The reason the MSM is still bashing Gov. Palin, she is the one the Left fears.

That’s what I keep telling people too..not that I dislike Palin personally, but she’s just not that conservative.

I agree, she’s obviously better than McCain, and than most R (pols), however she folded in a couple campaign interviews. Though if It were Sanford/Her I would vote for that ticket!
