There's something about former Vice President Dick Cheney that's been struggling to get out like a rare bald eagle chick ready to hatch. After listening to his remarks this weekend about Rush Limbaugh (loves him) and Colin Powell (doesn't), and his jut-jawed "I don't regret anything" moment on CBS, I know what it is:
Mr. Cheney is now replacing Richard Nixon in the national political and cultural consciousness as the Gorgeous George of our era, the guy whose very existence makes some people furious and who brings to the surface all those intense and complex emotions about power and the people who wield it. And, like Mr. Nixon, the former Bush Veep can't help himself and won't ever stop reopening the wounds.
Forget Rush Limbaugh, dissed by Barack Obama at the one-big-happy-family White House Correspondents' Dinner. Mr. Limbaugh is just a voice, albeit successfully shrill and hugely popular. He's irritating or entertaining, depending on your politics. But he's no Nixon, whose image alone could trigger spasms in the national psyche.
Rush is often called bad but rarely evil.
This Cheney role comes just in time for those of us who were reminded by "Frost/Nixon" just how much we missed the original. As knotty as the man was himself, he could somehow make everything else seem clearer. Life without him appeared colorless, less darkly symphonic. While he was around, kicked after a defeat or voted in by a landslide, he provided psychological hand-holds in a post-1950s world where there was always mysterious and dangerous trouble lurking somewhere. He gave a face to your fears, whether you feared him or worried about the things he feared.

Not that it is a good thing but I am old enough to remember R. Hilhaus Licksom during his entire career.
Cheney is every thing good that slimey Dick pretended to be.
Call former VP Cheney what you will, that is your right, however sir it is my right to call you a mattery eyed lying SOB.
What a piece of trash written by an obvious piece of crab ridden, lefty loving scum!!!!
Cheney is a patriot, were it not for poor Jerry Ford, Nixon would have died in prison, or before a firing squad.

“Translation: reminding the left when they were wrong, dead wrong.”
They didn´t fare so well in the ´60’s either. JFK sent troops to Viet Nam and initiate the fighting, then, after his assassination, LBJ ramped up the numbers big time using as a reason the trumped up Tonkin Gulk Incident.
Those 58,000 plus deaths in Viet Nam are primarily in the lap of the Dimocrat Party as is the case with most all the wars from 1880 to 1990. Mugabe was courtesy of Carter, Ayatollah Khomeinei, thanks again Jammah and finally the KorComs nuke program - Jammah, you just never take a breath, do you?
Coming from the ex-husband of Sharon Stone — the man stupid enough to get in a cage with a critter that caused him great bodily harm and added that this is San Francisco he speaks from — I think his brain cells are scrambled and Cheney should be pleased he has upset people of that ilk.
Wow, somebody saw that movie.
Commie propaganda.
Yeah, those birkenstocks don't protect very well.
Dare! Name a republican President more liberal than Dick
Nixon.
The pictures don’t look at all alike, but the young Nixon looks a lot like Obama. I’ve seen Precious One scowl like that, with shadowed eyes.

Three letters to remind you of Nixon - EPA
I dunno, Ford?
Cheney is a GREAT man....Nixon was not.
The Komodo dragon that bit Brownstain says that liberals taste like chicken.
What is it about Dick Cheney that makes the liberals foam at the mouths?
It must be because he so obviously has what they’re so obviously lacking:
Masculinity
Intelligence
“Gravitas”
and a shootin’ iron!
Former VP Dick Cheney is indeed a PATRIOT, and a whole lot more than that if you look at the many many years of his life devoted to America. He is the ONLY ONE standing up for the GOP, as Rush said over and over this morning. I for one would have loved seeing him as the top dog during the last eight years because of his no nonsense approach to business and obvious love of God, country and the Constitution. Need I add, he doesn’t take sh— from anyone!
He lets Clymer do that for him.
Cheney’s a guy who’s very existence causes countless attractive conservative ladies to swoon. I wish I’d met him first.
Veto,
CheneyChick for life
Wow, this is enough to give hope!
A modern day Tricky Dick to give the straight skinny on the Sacred Cow may be just what we need!
God bless President Nixon!
Prior to being selected as Bush's VP nominee in 2000, one would be hard pressed to find a more respected public servant than Dick Cheney. He was held in the highest esteem by colleagues on both sides of the aisle. For decades Cheney was widely respected and publicly lauded as a gentleman politician, an example of a firm, fair-minded leader who treated others with dignity and respect. He was an absolute model of how to be a principled politician in the cesspool of Washington.
But then began the drumbeats and chants from the war camps of the Left. And now the quintessential good guy politician who gave most of his life to public service is reduced to a dark caricature. The hero is now a villain. Not because the hero changed, but because those with the power to control the national narrative of the moment made it so.
Everything I detest about the behavior of the mainstream media and the Left is crystallized in what they've done to Cheney.
Everything I admire about principled and steady leadership under fire is crystallized in Dick Cheney.
