“i think the real nazi problem will be from austria, at least I’ve heard that.” .......................... The Nazi’s have earned their place in the dustbin of History. In the next 15-20 years those who still remain of that era will be gone totally. Hitler lives on only here in the U.S.A.. Stick his face on a book and it sells. Find some old 90+ yr old Nazi and he’s front page news.

I was asked by some Germans back in the 80’s “What is with the infatuation of Hitler in America?” Think about it, got cable TV, then you can see him daily 24/7. The one comment that prevailed in Germany was, “If you want to see what the Nazi’s gave Germany all you had to do was visit it’s major cities at the war’s end.”.

The German Colonels who I knew there were often asked by our men what was it like for them in WW II. (They were Wehrmacht Lt.s back then.) One answer I remember was, “That war is over, you should be concerned about the next one.” The current generations there have no interest in the Nazi’s, there is a small segment of rowdies in the former East Germany, and more notably the “skin heads” but most don’t take them seriously.(Much like the ones here.) The 4th Reich? Yeah right, with the werewolves too. The Post War German industry belong to us. We owned West Germany, it was American investments that made Germany prosper in the post war period.

Today Germany is made up of many people, like the USA. The Nazi’s “One People, One Country, One Leader” slogan will no longer work. Even the native Germans are fluid, they are moving all over the EU. They are even here in Florida, buying homes.

The US preoccupation with Hitler and WWII comes from several converging things. First, WWII was the last time that we could go to war and literally do anything we could think of and not destroy the world. That thought still appeals to us. While we keep looking for stronger weapons, we miss the days when we could throw everything at an enemy and know the world would still be there tomorrow.

Since the battlefields were almost everywhere except the Americas, it wasn't American cities getting bombed (Pearl Harbor was the exception.) Not just Germany, but all of Europe looked at the end of WWII and said, "No matter what happens, this can never happen again."

That's not to minimize American suffering with the people who suffered and died, the fathers, sons, husbands and brothers who never came home. But WWII did not destroy America's soul. Europe never recovered. The scars are still there.

That's the American fascination with Hitler. He looks like a character created for a movie. WWII was the last real World War. The next one will be just like the book of Revelation. A star will fall from the heavens and a third of the seas will die...It will make WWII look like a pillow fight.
