A professor wanted for killing his wife and two other people at a community theater two weeks ago was found dead in the north Georgia woods Saturday, his body covered in brush and dirt, officials said.

Two guns were found with the body of marketing professor George Zinkhan, who vanished after the April 25 shootings near the University of Georgia, said Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Joseph Lumpkin.

The guns matched those described by witnesses to the shootings, though police did not say how they believe Zinkhan died. Authorities hoped to have a cause of death by the end of Saturday.

Cadaver dogs found Zinkhan's body about 10 miles west of Athens in thick woods in Bogart, where he lived. Searchers — as many as 200 at one point — had been scouring the woods since his Jeep was found wrecked and abandoned in a ravine about a mile away a week ago.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab confirmed later Saturday that the body was Zinkhan....

If I were a betting man, Id guess a relative of one of the people he shot found the man and exacted some form of revenge.

I know you are joking about the squirrels but covering their kill with brush and dirt is something bears do. Don’t know if there are any bears in the GA woods.

ATHENS, Ga. — Cadaver dogs found the body of a wanted professor "beneath the earth" in the north Georgia woods Saturday, two weeks after police say he shot his wife and two other people to death outside a community theater, then vanished.

Searchers found two guns near the body of marketing professor George Zinkhan, 57, but police wouldn't say how he died. They did say it appears he buried himself in brush and dirt.

"A person who is not accustomed to the woods would never have found the body," said Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Joseph Lumpkin.

creepy thing. I guess whether it was a suicde or not might depend on how much he was covered,,was it like buried in leaves with room to move. If it was a lot of dirt, well, somebody else did it.

I'm picturing he covered himself up with brush and dirt. It would be helpful if we knew where the gun was found in relation to the body.

Then again, he could have shot himself just enough so he didn't die right away, which left him time to cover himself up.

This is beyond bizarre.

Thanks for the source. I am surprised that universities put up with this nonsense even in 1994. I doubt that my university would tolerate it. Recently a female student got a restraining order on a faculty member. The faculty member has been put on paid leave but he will likely be fired. I do not know the details of the situation but the university is taking the allegation very seriously.

Universities are places where miscreants often get away with stuff.

I note you are from Colorado. I will tell you my daughter, a student at CU, a non smoker, took Ward CHurchhill’s class and in order to ask him a question during his office hours, had to present a carton of cigarets.

She graduated either magna or summa but got a C in his class because of a paper on what to do to improve the status of native americans. She proposed using casino profits to educate tribe children and to raise the level of the management of the casinos which would be done by insiders on reservations rather than outsiders contracted to do it. Sort of a education/free market approach to tribes’ use of resources.

He excoriated her and that was it for her in his class. But she had to pay tribute to him to see him during his office hours.

He got away with that crap for years and years.
