UNITED NATIONS, May 8 (OneWorld.net) - Environmental groups and indigenous rights activists are calling for the White House and U.S. Congress to ratify an international treaty against the use and production of certain hazardous chemicals.

"Time is running out. The Congress has to take a stand and fight for the lives of the contaminated people and environment of the North," said Andrea Carmen, executive director of the International Indian Treaty Council.

Carmen and other activists, who are attending international talks on the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in Geneva this week, say they have grave concerns about the impact of toxic chemicals on the health of native communities -- especially those living in far northern parts of the globe.

Numerous studies have concluded that exposure to toxic chemicals, such as DDT, endosulfan, and lindane, is afflicting the indigenous populations in the Arctic region with illnesses of various descriptions.

While this is going on in Stockholm the EU is working on a proposal to BAN the importation of ALL Canadian seal products.

Indigenous peoples in Europe (which includes the Sapmai, Kola Peninsula, and a big chunk of Russia all the way to Siberia) could benefit from the relatively healthy and uncontaminated canned Canadian seal meat.

These people of the North not only have a different diet than the people to the South, they're systems are clearly modified to eat a diet high in fats, iron and protein and low in starches and sugars. By depriving them of food products such as seal and whale meat which are native to their region the EU is attempting to commit genocide against the people of the North.

This particular conference concerns itself with chemicals manufactured in the United States which compete against EU chemicals. Given that genocide is the greater risk, the people supposedly representing the interests of the people of the North are selling out their own people for a virtually negligible political advantage in European politics.

They should be taken out, tarred, feathered and tossed to the Orcas.

The Indo-European invaders should, of course, be sent back to their places of origin.

Key comment

“Some Arctic indigenous populations have shown levels of contaminants in blood and breast milk higher than those found elsewhere in the world,”

Lindane is an insecticide and is used to treat lice and scabies.

DDT saved millions of lives until it was banned. Now the lack costs millions each and every year.

Endusulfan is another insecticide. Its already banned in 50 countries. its highly effective though and continues to be used. Probably has saved millions from starvation.
