Report: Obama Moves to Restart Military Commissions (Where's the outrage from the left?)
fox news ^ | 5/9/2009 | fox news

Government officials say the Obama administration is preparing to restart military commissions established at Guantanamo Bay, the Washington Post has reported.

Obama obtained a four-month suspension of the commissions in the beginning of his administration that is set to expire May 20. Officials tell the Washington Post that Obama will seek a 90-day extension as early as next week.

After the extension, it is expected that Obama will revive the commissions, under new rules that would offer terror suspects greater legal protections. A lawyer briefed on the plan told the Washington Post that the commissions will subsequently restart on American soil.

The commissions will block the use of evidence obtained by harsh interrogations, sources told the Washington Post.

Obama previously said the commissions had "been an enormous failure" and during the campaign said he would "reject the Military Commissions Act."

A Defense Department official told FOX News earlier this week that closing the commissions looked easy on Jan. 20, "but having reviewed the files, it makes sense to keep some cases in the military commissions."

“...under new rules that would offer terror suspects greater legal protections”

That’s what my grandpa used to call window dressing.

‘The King is dead. Long live the King’ comes to mind.

They’re too busy feeling smug while they quaff soy lattes to worry about politics.

He could order Summary Executions of all of the prisoners at GITMO and the left would praise his decisiveness.

The left would not even notice at all if he did it during “American Idol.”

If a Republican says it it must be wrong. If a rat says it it must be ok.

"reject the Military Commissions Act."

Laws don't mean anything to Community Organizers.

The head of Acorn can do what he wants.

What they don’t seem to realize is by doing this they’re going out on a limb — and let me throw in another metaphor — they’ve already burned their bridges.

They’re going to end up having to extract information from these terrorists sooner or later (sooner given how we’re dismantling our defenses and intel structures). Then when they do, they’ll be in exactly the same position as the Bush administration, only the lawyers will be afraid to say go ahead and use duress to get the info.

That is, if they have any lawyers stupid enough to advise them to use anything beyond harsh language.

There is an anecdote which is very revealing about the mindset of the left when it contemplates the American military. It doesn't matter if it's apocryphal, it's the sense of it that counts. It involves two newly minted Clinton administration functionaries reacting to a flyover of the United States Air Force as they exited Clinton's inauguration ceremony. The first expressed disgust at the militarism, but the second reminded the first that, "it is our Air Force now."

I have never been confident that we can dismiss Obama as a typical Jimmy Carter leftist without the guts to resort to military force to achieve his ends. If it is Obama's military, Obama's purpose, Obama's power which is at stake, I think you will see the most ruthless exercise of military power ever mustered by an American president.

“where’s the left outrage”

1) It’s a Saturday story which gives Obie cover.
2) Libs have no balls against The One
3) They really do not care, it was just good PR when they could scream against Bush

I could go on if you like...................

Your #3 just about nails it! The last Republican Congress budget was fiscal 2007 and that had a deficit of only $160 billion. Obama and gang for fiscal 2009 and fiscal 2010 will have amassed a budget deficit of close to $4 trillion.

...and the left and MSM are all of a sudden okay with budget deficits.

That piece of crap found himself in the same problem as Bush was with these bunch of terrorists. King Obama will get stressed out when he finds that most of the Country does not support his radical junk. Looks like Germany is questioning their taking the terrorists by asking for more info.

Don’t let our caution stop. Obama is still just as likely to release these people into the U.S. We need to put the laws in place now to stop it, regardless of how much the O admin has changed it’s tune.
