EXCLUSIVE--B'KLYN SENATOR A YEAR BEHIND ON MORTGAGE The home of State Sen. Kevin Parker -- a vocal supporter of foreclosure relief for troubled homeowners ---is in danger of being repossessed. Parker, a four-term Brooklyn Democrat, hasn't paid a dime in more than a year toward the $488,000 mortgage he took out in 2006. DLJ Mortgage Capital, Inc. filed an ominous foreclosure complaint, November 2008: "You are in danger of losing your home," , .... Property records show Parker bought the one-family, brick row house December 2006 for $610,000, borrowing $488,000 from New Century Mortgage Corporation. New Century has since folded, and unloaded the loan onto DLJ Mortgage Capital, which claims it received only its first eight monthly payments of $3,329.20 each. Court records show no response from Parker, who earns a $79,500 base salary plus an extra $22,000 for being the Senate majority whip........ The pol is an advocate of foreclosure relief, sending out a press release last summer announcing his backing of "Operation Protect Your Home," a cooperative effort by government and lenders to try to keep homeowners from losing their properties.

Sen Parker walks toward Post photographer who says Parker attacked him and damaged his car.

Brooklyn state Sen. Kevin Parker was busted after allegedly attacking a NY Post photographer.... Parker, a Democrat, became enraged when Post staff photographer snapped a shot of him getting out of a car at his parents' home, where he lives. Shortly after the flash went off, the hulking Parker started chasing him, the photographer said. Parker tried to get into the photog's car -- and that's when the real violence began, according to the lensman.

Maybe his wife works, but how the hell do you buy a house for $600K making only $81K in salary? I make $40K more than he does and I own a $350K home which I bought for $250K. His mortgage is 3 times mine. This is just insane. Oh and by the way, cut your grass, if you are going to act like a millionaire big shot at least look like one!

There are a couple of oddities here. Parker is the dem Senate Majority Whip, 41 years old, unmarried, and living with his parents. Is this a New York thing, or is something messed up here?

As to the house, he put 20% down. The story doesn't say he ever lived there; it just says there's been a for-sale sign out front for six months and no one has lived there in that time. One possibility is that he thought he'd flip the property and got caught in the downturn. Or is he recently divorced, with the house as one of the casualties? We need a little more background here. If he had taken out a fly-by night mortgage he'd be fair game, but in this case he seems to be writing off the $122,000 he put down. (Granted, he's probably underwater now.) Even though he's a democrat, I'm prepared to have some sympathy if he's been sideswiped by one of life's little disasters.

It does, however, raise a conflict of interest question if he's voting on related legislation.

Too bad Parker hit on a latino--- who Dems are depending on for a permanent majority---or he would have gotten a Cabinet position w/ Obama. Parker has all the qualifications.

Agreed on more information needed; however, just because he put 20% down does not necessarily mean he could afford the mortgage. At his salary with the high New York income taxes his mortgage payment is more than 50% of his take home pay. If he was married at the time of the loan his wife would have to making as much as he was to get in the ball park of really affording this mortgage.

Cut him some slack if you want---the guy is obviously a bully, and the fact that he beat up the reporter and damaged his property, and has been charged with violent offenses before, is enough for me to think he should not be an elected official.
