Gitmo Quagmire (Oliver North)

Washington, D.C. —

On Wednesday April 29, in an East Room press conference, President Obama claimed, "We have rejected the false choice between our security and our ideals by closing the detention center at Guantanamo Bay."

That simply isn't true. What he did do was to issue an executive order directing the facility be closed by January 2010, little more than seven months from now. Unfortunately, Obama in his naïve exuberance to fulfill a pledge that had earned standing ovations and rave reviews from the mainstream media during the presidential campaign, really didn't have a plan. That's now coming back to haunt him.

On Wednesday, while Obama was holding a photo op at the White House with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, quietly deleted funds for closing Gitmo from the FY '09 supplemental spending bill.

The "O-Team" had requested $80 million this fiscal year and an equal amount next year to cover the expense of shuttering the detention facility and relocating the terrorists housed there. Obey, one of the most powerful Democrats on Capitol Hill, justified eliminating the FY '09 funds by noting, "I personally favor what the administration's talking about doing, but so far as we can tell there is as yet no concrete program for that."

Just in case the nice folks at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue didn't get the message, Obey added, "While I don't mind defending a concrete program, I'm not much interested in wasting my energy defending a theoretical program."

The theory of which Obey speaks is that someone on the "O-Team" actually has a plan for where to put the 241 terrorists currently detained at the facility.

If, god forbid, thes 241 are brought to the US, I do hope they are put in some of our more hardcore federal institutions IN GENERAL POPULATION. If they thought life was tough at Gitmo, with until they have to share space with animals that torture child molestors and rapists.

It is an odd conundrum that these prisons detain gangs of violent people that have an “honor code.” I doubt any love would be lost within the prison population if the terrorists started mysteriously falling, heart first, on ball point pens.

It’ll be a horrible mistake to bring them here but should it happen I’d bet they’re separated and protected, unfortunately.

During debate this week in the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., suggested that we should give the cold-blooded terrorists housed at Gitmo, "the same due-process rights as American troops." No one in the so-called mainstream media bothered to call Schiff to account for equating Khalid Sheikh Muhammad, Ramzi Binalshibh and Abu Zubaydah — September 11 conspirators all — with the men and women of our armed forces.

Too-angry-to-type BTT. I'd be happy if we gave them the same due process Khalid Sheikh Muhammad gave Daniel Pearl. That would be a sharp knife after the dull one didn't work.

That’d suit me and a lot of others just fine, it’s what they deserve.

The RATS coming off with statements like that are beneath contempt and couldn’t be more anti-American if they were card carrying members of al-Qaeda.

Thanks for the ping jaz. It’s amazing to me that we’re beyond the first 100 days, and the only attacks upon us have been by Obama, not the terrorists.

He’s delusional isn’t he. (rhetorical)

No doubt he is and though it’s a miracle we haven’t had an attack it’s only a matter of when and it won’t be long if Obambi has his way.
