ARPAIO TO RECRUIT AND ARM CITIZENS
borderfire report ^ | May 7, 2009 | borderfire report staff

Nineteen new qualified armed posse volunteers will graduate today, Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 at 6:30PM from the Sheriff’s Training Academy, 2627 South 35 Avenue. Arpaio says he plans to step up his recruiting methods to attract more men and women to join his volunteer armed posse through more public outreach.

“The public has a desire to help local law enforcement when times are tough. I am banking on their generosity of time and energy to help my deputies keep our communities safe,” Arpaio says.

Arpaio is seeking primarily those who wish to be trained and qualified to carry and use a weapon. Currently there are about 300 qualified armed posse members in a volunteer force now numbering nearly 2,600 men and women, the largest volunteer posse in the nation.

Here is a guy who believes in doing what our elected representatives are supposed to do—protect the lives and property of the American people. He gets it done while thug politicians are more interested in power and wealth.

If they can find a single paper clip missing, he’s toast.”

The Sheriff is responsible to the LOCAL COUNTY residents-—NOT to the Federal Government.

If there is a problem about paper clips- give me an address to send a couple of thousand to Sheriff Joe. It would be my pleasure.

Everyone has a list of things they would like to do or people they would like to spend time with before they die—a personal “bucket list” for each of us.

Sheriff Joe is on my list.....

someone who is quite popular and at 77”

Sheriff Joe is 77 years old? Are you sure??

That would mean he was voted in the first time at an advanced age. I know he gets about 89% of the vote each time he runs.

I’m a big Sheriff Joe fan. I’ve just noticed that the criticism used to come from the flaky nutter Left and the Monica Media. Now it seems that congress and the Hussein administration have their eyes on Joe. Joe is tough and is a rare Republican in that he stands up for himself, but we all know that once the Democrats can chink his armor, his fellow Republicans will abandon him, and some will even attack him.

He is going to be under severe attacks now, and he doesn’t even have to do anything illegal or unethical to be destroyed.

I remember what happened to Governor Mecham. (disclaimer: I did not vote for him). He was impeached for trumped on charges and nearly went to prison.

This is what happens to people who the Left seriously wants to get rid of.

Which county exactly do you think would ever elect Arpaio? Certainly not Dallas County, not Tarant County, and I doubt Collin County would either.

I love Sherriff Joe but I am even afraid to vote against him which I have never, ever done of course. Who ever goes after him may find themselves in a world of hurt.

Bull Crap!! He enforces the law... I guess you have a problem with that.

I have a problem with you not understanding sarcasm. You people need to develop a sense of humor.

Apparently the obvious isn't so obvious to some.

He did this already. Before he was first elected there was a huge problem with people (mostly elderly women) getting mugged in busy parking lots in Phoenix. He campaigned on being able to stop this from happening and when elected he created a posse of mostly retired LEO and some were even horseback to patrol parking lots. He did stop the muggings or at least reduce them to the point they were not a big issue. I didn't realize he had let his posse go at some point- I thought it was a great idea.

He did end up impeached but I also remember they were trying to recall him and the strange thing was I never saw a petition for his recall and didn't know a single person who saw it much less signed it. I do remember discussions about that at work at the time. When that happened I was working for a very wealthy, politically connected man in Phoenix and his version was that Mecham made promises to the powers that be to get elected- I think they were called the Phoenix 100, anyway according to my boss when Mecham took office he told these powerful people to take a hike, he owed them nothing and they did him in.

It's that nuance. It'll get you every time.

FWIW I'm impressed with Sheriff Joe. What he has going there sounds a lot like the original form of the civilian militia. Men and women trained and ready to assist the local authorities with community security.

As I said, he's terrific. We need more like him and that's no joke.

Mecham was railroaded, that's for sure.

I followed his trial and even watched it in court a couple days. His attorney was Mrs. Chandler's cousin, Mike Scott.

Evan Mecham was a prim tea teetotaler, but Mike was a hard drinking cowboy. He was even a rodeo bull rider at one time. You were less likely to see Mike at a country club than in a Whiskey Row bar in Prescott.

But he was a hell of a lawyer-the best.

Here's an article about Mike's funeral.

Mike Scott.
