DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) A California desert cabin that became cult leader Charles Manson's last hideout has been gutted by fire.
Death Valley National Park spokesman Terry Baldino said Thursday that the isolated cabin was discovered burned on Tuesday.
He says it's not known if it was an accident or a deliberate act.
The cabin was last seen intact Friday and may have burned over the weekend.

Bummer. /heavy sarcasm
Too bad he wasn’t IN it when it happened......
That whole area must hold SUCH history...
Just needs a broom, and have the tin roof straightened out a bit, be good as new.
Too bad Charlie didn’t stay in Ohio, where he was from.
It was creepy when I visited. That would have been winter of 2001 I think.
I know its foundation and roof are still there, but it’s sad to think the furniture and current visitors log (maintained by — I thought it was BLM rangers) is gone. People left their thoughts and condolences and lots of things in those logs.
They had a crime show on cable that featured the Manson family compound and the “psychic investigator” who helped them locate some previously unknown murder victim’s graves said the place was absolutely drenched in “evil energy”.
You couldn’t pay me to walk on that property.
[and they’re *still* searching for more hidden bodies]
I have been thinking about the Reagan Ranch, wonder if the fire has touched it. I believe it borders on Camino Cielo.
Nah the Rancho del Cielo is far northwest of this fire.
