Colin Powell's RINO Virus
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 2009-05-07

Politics: Our former secretary of state savages as "mean-spirited" and "driven by social conservatism" the party that gave him prominence. Americans, don't you know, really want more taxes and more government.

Seems there's no shortage of advice these days from inside and outside the GOP on what the Republican Party needs to do to return to power. Colin Powell is no exception as he continues to snipe at the party that, thanks to appointments by Presidents Reagan, Bush and Bush, made him a national icon.

"The Republican Party is in deep trouble," the former general and secretary of state told corporate security executives at a conference Monday in Washington, D.C.

Powell said he told 2008 GOP presidential candidate John McCain last summer that the party had developed a reputation for being mean-spirited and was driven more by social conservatism than the economic problems America faced.

Perhaps, if all you watch is MSNBC.

Powell opined that the country had changed, but not the GOP. "Americans do want to pay taxes for services," he said. "Americans are looking for more government in their lives, not less."

Really? They certainly weren't looking for more taxes at the tea-parties that dotted the nation last month. But, according to Powell, wanting to keep more of what you earn is mean-spirited.

I do not want to pay more taxes for services that aren’t available to me. And that is exactly how it works. NO THANKS

Somebody should tell this political coward that his lord and savior ran on TAX CUTS.

And then somebody should remind him how he sat by and watched Scooter Libby twist on the political gallows while Powell knew the entire time that his Deputy Armitage was the guy who spoke that awful womens name to Bob Novack.

What a despicable character General Powell has turned out to be.

Can someone please point out to me anytime where Colin Powell has ever said anything remotely conservative? I’d really like to know if such an event has ever happened.

Powell sounds more and more like former KGB agent Yuri Bezmenov description of a subversive agent.

According to Powell and his RINO comrades, all the GOP has to do to right the ship is to become virtually indistinguishable from the Donkeys. ...which alas, it’s very close to doing anyway.

My Dear General,

Were it not for the Republican Party, Al Haig, and Affirmative Action,(backed up by some militarily skilled colonels at the Pentagon) you might well have ended your military career as possibly a major, in charge of soldering mess kits at Fort Huachuca.

Please go away now, and take your nut-bag wife with you.

When he sat in front of the United Nations making the case for military operations against Iraq with evidence of Iraq’s attempting to reconstitute their chemical and biological weapons programs. Other than that, he’s demonstrated no conservative behavior.

Where's the lever that opens the floor beneath such lizards-sending them tumbling and crashing through a dark, wet, granite passage toward a moat or dungeon?

It's on the internet, baby! Next!(major media drools on it's ever-shrinking, irrelevant, self)

I typed into the Google search engine the following: "Colin Powell the OPPORTUNIST" and came up with an address that harkened back to the days the Democrats were furious with him. Talk about name-calling in 2004:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=103x88382

Whew! I love it! Do you suppose MSNBC's dimwitted hacks will be reminding us of their once-upon-a-time disdain for the lil general?

Regards . . . Penny

I once heard a guy on a radio talk show who knew Powell while in the Army. This guy sounded pretty authentic as best as I could tell.

Anyway he said that without Affirmative Action, Powell would never have made it past Lt. Colonel. He bypassed over two dozen more senior and better qualified Soldiers to get General of the Army and then was put in charge of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It was the Air Force’s turn in the rotation but George H.W. Bush wanted Powell. Maybe someone here can confirm this. As I said I heard it on a radio talk show so I have no proof of this. But from what I've seen of Powell, I think it's probably true.

Powell also blasted Rush Limbaugh, saying: "I think what Rush does as an entertainer diminishes the party and intrudes or inserts into our public life a kind of nastiness that we would be better to do without."

I listened to NPR for about five minutes today. The purpose of the NPR hit piece was to brand Senator Jeff Sessions a racist, since he will be the key Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee during the upcoming Supreme Court nominee hearings. No substantiation of Sessions' racial bigotry was provided, and the presentation was carefully phrased to avoid a slander lawsuit. Still, NPR's implication could not have been clearer. Jeff Sessions is just another Klansman with a big R in front of his name. Heh, heh, smirk, smirk, aren't we urbane.

In all the years that I listened to Rush, I never heard him say anything one-hundredth as vile.

So, Colin, is that also a kind of nastiness that we would be better to do without? I guess not. NPR's slander is your kind of nastiness.
