A physician who ran for lieutenant governor three years ago will make a run for Congress in Minnesota's Sixth District next year.

Dr. Maureen Reed, who ran as an Independence Party candidate in the 2006 gubernatorial race, said she plans to file as a DFL candidate for the seat currently held Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, who is serving her second term.

In doing so, she will be facing off against Elwyn Tinklenberg, Bachmann's 2008 opponent, who said today he's planning a third run for the seat....

Michele Bachmann and Barney Frank may be heading for legislative showdown
http://www.minnpost.com/cynthiadizikes/2009/05/01/8509/michele_bachmann_and_barney_frank_may_be_heading_for_legislative_showdown

During a markup of the Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act of 2009 this week, Bachmann successfully offered an amendment on voice vote that would prohibit funding in the bill from going to organizations or individuals that have been indicted for voter fraud.
“I want to ensure that organizations, such as ACORN, are prohibited from receiving funds while simultaneously facing charges of voter fraud and tax violations,” Bachmann said in a press release.
Although ACORN has had its share of legal troubles over the years, including an embezzlement scandal and problematic voter registration issues, the group said that it has never been indicted for voter fraud.

Acorn Charged in Voter Registration Fraud Case in Nevada

LAS VEGAS — A prominent antipoverty organization that drew criticism from Republicans during last year’s presidential race was charged by Nevada officials Monday with engaging in voter registration fraud.
Two former leaders of the group’s Nevada branch were also charged in connection with the submission of thousands of bogus voter registration forms.
The organization, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or Acorn, is accused of paying canvassers only if they registered at least 20 voters per shift and providing bonuses of $5 for registering more than 21.
Under Nevada law, it is illegal to attach incentives to such work, in part because it encourages canvassers to submit fraudulent forms, Secretary of State Ross Miller said.
Acorn submitted 91,002 completed forms in Clark County, which includes Las Vegas, of which 23,186 turned out to be valid new voters who voted in November, according to data provided by Mr. Miller’s office.
Mr. Miller investigated Acorn at the behest of the Clark County registrar of voters, Larry Lomax, who noted a high number of forms turned in featuring the names of famous football players and cartoon characters.

I don’t know who the other two are but I love Michele Bachmann. I hope she becomes more visible in the party, she could lead it to great things, imho

She’s got my vote. Has a slight case of “foot-in-mouth”, but her principles are sound.

Michelle Bachmann is one of the best conservatives we have in congress and this is, by no means, a safe seat. So the Dem-lite wing of the GOP will tell Minnesotans they should recruit somebody else. And the grassroots will tell the party bosses to go to h*ll. And the party bosses will do their best to sandbag her as a result.

Hey Elwyn,
In 08 you had enormous resources behind you from all the national leftists that despise Bachmann. You had MSNBC mocking her on a daily basis. You had an extraordinarily good year for Democrats. Still, Michelle trounced you while her party was being decimated. So what makes think you have a chance this time? You must be counting on rats in the state house to gerrymander her out of the district. The sad part is your are probably on to something. I'm sure it will be one of their highest priorities.

The same WingNuts who bash Gov. Palin are the same ones who do the same to Rep. Bachmann.

The gal from the Independence Party who wants to oppose
Conservative Bachmann is from the same party WingNut
Dean Barkley is from and who ran against Sen. Norm Coleman
and Franken. This Third Party loon is making possible
a Franken win.

Typical of some folks on FR who want to divide Republicans
and facilitate Democrat victories.

An example of the Independence Party

Maureen Reed, who ran as an Independence Party candidate in the 2006 gubernatorial race &
Dean Barkley is running in Minnesota to continue what Ron Paul and Jesse Ventura started.

All tools of the Left wing.

Their mantra, no conservative is pure enough sucks in the
uneducated and they end up voting for Left wing loons.

They divide Republicans to keep their Democrate in power

Palin and Bachmann in 2012.
It takes two women to clean
the House and the Senate.
