“tax rate is way too high”

That is not a fault of the fairtax proposal. That is a fault of the current level of spending. That “high” rate is already in existence today, it is just hidden from you. I prefer that every American gets hit in the face with that “high” rate with every purchase they make every day.

I’d wager that it would sure make a bunch more “shrink the government” types very quickly.

Understood, but I have no intention of supporting an "out of the frying pan, into the fire" solution.

If it doesn't actually fix anything important then what good is the Fairtax anyway?

Changing how the government steals without addressing how much it steals is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

That is one of the things I like about the Fair Tax. But the main thing I love is no more reporting to the IRS.

Actually a law could exist now that would print on every receipt the estimated embedded federal taxes that make up the purchase price.

And embedded federal taxes are on average 20% of pricing.

Then ask if people would tolerate a 23% inclusive tax and wipe out the 20% embedded inclusive tax.

People when they get hold of that choice scream SIGN ME UP, SIGN ME UP NOW?

And what’s the extra 3% for?

To rebate everyone so that the FairTax is progressive and not regressive, in other words untax the poor (like grandparents on Social Security).
