Although Gov. Brad Henry vetoed similar legislation 10 days earlier, House members Monday again approved a resolution claiming Oklahoma’s sovereignty. Featured Gallery

Unlike House Joint Resolution 1003, House Concurrent Resolution 1028 does not need the governor’s approval.

The House passed the measure 73-22. It now goes to the Senate.

"We’re going to get it done one way or the other,” said the resolutions’ author, Rep. Charles Key, R-Oklahoma City.

"I think our governor is out of step.”

House Democrats objected, saying the issue already had been taken up and had been vetoed, but House Speaker Pro Tempore Kris Steele, R-Shawnee, ruled the veto is not final action.

Key said he expects HCR 1028 will pass in the Senate. HJR 1003 earlier passed the House 83-18 and won approval in the Senate 29-18.

Henry vetoed HJR 1003 because he said it suggested, among other things, that Oklahoma should return federal tax dollars.

Yes! Way to go OK.

I wish I could hop on board a Florida effort but I see no sign of Florida caring.

Okay Lets say That Okla and Texas both reassert their sovereignty whats next.

The resolution states the federal government should “cease and desist” mandates that are beyond the scope of its powers.

OK and TX send the Stimulus money back, Does the Fed Govt Care They already control the House, Senate, and Presidency and possibly the Supreme courts.

Without the threat of succession I see very little OK and TX can do.

Gov Henry is proving that we need to force fedgov to obey the 10th Amendment.

He is saying, in effect, that it’s peachy keen for the federal government to violate the 10th as long as they are sending lots of money to Oklahoma.

Open bribes good, 10th Amendment bad. That’s Dimocrat Governor Brad Henry’s view on the world of politics, apparently.

Received this email from a friend:

An update from Oklahoma.

The state legislature passed, 37 to 9, an amendment to place the Ten Commandments on the front entrance to the state capitol. The Feds in DC and the ACLU said we'd better not do that. Guess what..........we did it anyway.

We recently passed a law in the state to incarcerate all illegal immigrants and ship them back to where they came from. This was against the advice of the Federal Government and the ACLU. Guess what..........we did it anyway.

Yesterday we passed a law to include DNA samples from any and all illegals to the Oklahoma database for criminal investigative purposes. Pelosi said it was unconstitutional. You guessed it........we did it anyway.

Washington has also made bold steps to take away our guns. So we passed a law confirming that people in this state have the right to bear arms and transport them in their vehicles. I'm sure that was a set-back for the Kennedys, The Brady Bunch and Ms. Pelosi. But..........we did it anyway.

Several weeks ago, we passed a resolution reminding the Federal government that it has no powers except those specifically listed in the Constitution of the United States. From now on, when Washington says "Jump!", we won't say "How high?" The Feds don't like that, but..........

By the way, Obama really doesn't like any of this. Guess what.....we're just dumb Okies....and we're doing it anyway.

I am proud of OK. TX should follow suit soon. I am a bit jealous. Hoosiers are by and large of the same mindset. Our conservative mindset is a little diluted by mass population centers in the Chicago suburbs and in the state's capitol.

I wish they would move, Chicago, Louisville and Cincinnati further from our Indiana borders. Then we could be like OK and Texas. :o)

Thanks for your comments. As Teddy Jack Eddy would say, "It makes mah heart swell."

I think a lot of folks have just about had enough of government in general, the Federal government specifically. The Tea Parties were great, and I don't think they're going away. Hope not, anyway.

From the article:
"We give all this money to all these different entities, including automakers, and now they’re talking about, ‘Well maybe it’s better to let them go bankrupt,’” Key said. "Well, maybe we should have let them go bankrupt before we gave them the money.”

Yes!!

At least one person in Oklahoma has some common sense.

Your business model sucks? Suffer the consequences!

So, according to Gov. Henry (D-Shawnee, OK), the reason he vetoed the resolution was because he didn't like the idea of not accepting the stimulus money? Otherwise, he was "on-board" with the measure?

Yeah, right!
