It takes analysis to determine the worth of a historical figure. You can’t just go by general consensus. History is written by the victors. Thomas Paine is viewed as he is because his side won. If the British had won, Paine would have been viewed by the red coats and royal sympathizers as “an egotistical gasbag” who “has accomplished nothing”. I am sorry that you feel the same way as the people who have won the battle to destroy America and who are now writing the history books. I, on the other hand, will teach my children what Dr. Keyes has said and why it is right.

If Keyes were more than a self-aggrandizing gasbag he would try to turn his words into action. He’d run for offices he could actually win so he could turn word into deed. Or, barring that, he’d stop making a fool of himself by becoming the modern day Harold Stassen so people would take him seriously. As an author, lecturer and public intellectual he might have genuine impact. But by running for office after office and being humiliated he makes it next to impossible to be taken seriously.
