The Need to Hold the GOP Accountable
By Robert Parry May 5, 2009
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/050509.html
Excerpts:
Perhaps it was the image of Jeb Bush expounding on the future of the Republican Party or Condoleezza Rice channeling her inner Richard Nixon with the imperial logic that by definition, if it was authorized by the President, it did not violate our obligations under the Convention Against Torture.
But what is increasingly clear is that the modern Republican Party with its unwillingness to face up to its responsibility for many of todays calamities and the crimes of its leaders has become a clear and present danger to the founding principles of the United States, and to the nations security.
The issue is not rebranding as the mainstream news media endlessly says but accountability. The concern should be more about the Republican past than its future or, put differently, whether the GOP deserves a future considering what it has done in the recent past.
~~snip~~
The only accountability may come if most Americans turn their back on the reckless Republicans, perhaps opening space for the emergence of a new political party, one that may represent classic conservative positions without the overlay of right-wing economic extremism, religious fundamentalism and monarchical attitudes about presidential power.
Perhaps such a replacement for the Republican Party might come to respect and defend the Republic.
I agree.
The left has carte blanc right now and can’t help themselves in over reaching. It will blow up in their faces and it will be very clear to all what the left stands for and what the consequences are.
If we prepare in unison instead of running around insulting each other, we will have a great oportunity for a big come back.

GOP Launching Smear Tactics Perfected During Clinton Years on Obama
Republicans seem incapable of coming up with any other strategy than to seek Obama’s destruction, much as they torpedoed Clinton.

The GOP’s Filibuster Hypocrisy
When Republicans are in power “filibuster” is a dirty word, but when they're in the minority it's their favorite past time.

The author's intention in this article is to destroy the opposition to Marxists’ total power (Obama’s and the Democrat controlled Congress). His team, the Marxists only need 8 years of total power to totally end the constitution through UN treaties and install total socialism. With Rinos, they will criminalize conservative speech as they have done in Britain.
He knows the tea parties, if they come together in taking over the Republican party taking power and agenda away from the Rino establishment, are going to destroy his hope for Utopia and the Rinos who will gladly go along.
If the tea party majority comes together as a third party, we will be demonized by the media and undermined by National and State election machinery and he knows that. He's hoping we will split from the Republican Rino controlled party and leave the Marxists in total power as we wander in the desert. And he's right. We did that for 40 years before Reagan came along.
We conservatives have to take responsibility for what happened. We did not oversee Bush and our party's Rinos in other areas - the expansion of Federal power, larger budget and spending, no reform in the Federal government, no reform in health insurance problems, the patriot act's total Presidential power, corporate corruption, the war, the economy, constitutional protection, etc. We became brain dead one note protective Rino party nellies instead of creatively and intelligently running and steering the party agenda and machinery.
I don't know about others, but I am regretting not listening to Libertarians who were raising hell about the expansion of Federal power, the Patriot Act and the execution of the war. I regret that I did not speak up more about the Federal take over of local schools and the expansion of elderly health care into drug benefits (given the deficit spending). I regret not speaking out against Bush expanding paid political favors to religious social groups and I regret not demanding liberal groups be defunded.
I knew the real estate and debt “economy” was totally stupid. It only serves those who want a make believe global economy where China makes stuff and we buy it with fake real estate prices and debt. I did get involved in fighting against McCain's amnesty with open borders with those folks because they were organized. When I can I donate money to the pro-life workers. I have never felt comfortable with us being “the global leader” or “military superpower.” I want us super strong for self protection, but I am more comfortable when we are minding our own business in all areas of foreign relations. Our socialist allies are soft and nasty. We are too entwined with the business of other Nations. I could have come on here for Freeper help (or other places conservatives gather)in these other areas but I was lazy.
The only policy people who organize and act in the conservative movement are the pro-life and border folks. We need to change that and expand into all areas of reform if we want to take power from the unconstitutional globalist elite. It's us American citizens against these idiot “citizens of the world.”
Jim, here is a proposal of maybe what we can do on this web site. We can have different areas of discussion on reform like reform for health care, global economy reform, reform for budget/spending, foreign relations reform, reform for restoring constitutional government's division of power and individual rights, taxation reform, etc. Maybe we can invite folks to Free Republic who are experts on reform ideas that we think our fellow conservatives would appreciate or at least use as a launching point. We can be an reform idea incubator instead of just clever reactors. Who knows. Maybe our own American-American constitutional rich guy will come along to help Conservatives take over the party machinery and candidates like Soros helped the communist "citizens of the world" take over the Democrat Party.
We are united, we want to insure that a conservative emerges from all of these competitors and we want to cut the legs out from under the spoiler rino Mitt Romney.
Join us in our cause, help us keep that rino Romney out of the primary pool.
You are deluded. Obama resulted because of Spoiler Romney and "No one from Arizona can win" McCain.
Spoiler Romney attacks Gov. Palin:
"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"
"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"
"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"
"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"
"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"
Poor sport spoiler Romney attacks other GOP candidatesn:
Novak: "Fred Thompson drop-out rumors traced to Romney campaign"
My thoughts exactly!
We don’t win wars by joining the ranks of the enemy and try to be more like them.
We win by digging in deeper, fight all the harder, and don’t give an inch of ground, until we can leave the foxholes and push them back into the sea. all the while leaving their rotting carcases behind us.
This is no longer a political game. This is a serious battle for the America we still love and who many of us here have fought and died for.
There is no surrender or moderate compromise!
Jeb Bush isn’t a conservative either. Freepers who have a love affair w/Jeb Bush should wake up. Jebbie’s a globalist and Eric Cantor says “we can learn from Obama”? What kind of bs is that? What a panderer and a sellout.
McCain, Fred, Romney? You left out Giuliani and Duncan Hunter and Hillary Clinton. What year do you think it is? 2007 and the 2008 election is over, it is time to forget your glory days of the past and look to the future. Those old political names are history from a bygone era.
The only dinosaur that is still around that can hurt us is Mitt Romney, we have a feast of riches with successful sitting governors and others to choose from and all you mention is that if it isn’t Governor Palin then we need the failed rino Mitt Romney as our only desperate fall back candidate. We also don’t need Mormons lecturing us that to try to block an unsuitable candidate from defeating OUR candidates in OUR primaries is “unchristian” and “an undemocratic approach”, it is the very exercise of democracy and the political process to try to take out an unsuitable candidate before he can destroy the party.
To claim that not supporting your loser, liberal candidate as leader of OUR conservative movement is “an undemocratic approach” is pretty rich even for a famous Romney obsessive like you, You signed up at FR to promote your fellow Mormon and you have done it relentlessly ever since, your interest is narrow and self serving, in fact this last post reads almost like your very first post here at FR.
The only one set in concrete is you, you are locked on Mitt Romney, you signed up to promote him in 2007 and you have never stopped. You are still promoting and defending Romney although the 2008 election is over, it is you that is locked into a permanent mode of pro Romney activism.
You took the initiative to sign up at FR to start promoting and defending Mitt Romney from the very first post you made here.
What is it about you obsessive Romney types that make you think that no one knows your posting history, or the history of your candidate?
If you aren’t obsessed with promoting Romney then just forget about him and move on to the rest of our current field, as you have learned Romney is finished here at FR.
You took the initiative to sign up at FR to start promoting and defending Mitt Romney from the very first post you made here.
When you spout the dishonest kumbayah stuff that you do about being "unChristian, a negative, and an undemocratic approach" you are only promoting your man Mitt Romney. You have the opposite approach when it involves the actual man that won the nomination, Republican Senator John McCain and the man that came in second Republican Governor Huckabee, you are perfectly willing to use an "unChristian, a negative, and an undemocratic approach" towards them, as you should, it is called working for a better candidate which also includes working against failed governor Mitt Romney.
Your interest here is to push Romney and you are doing it on Jim Robinson's anti Romney thread at this very moment. You cult like Romney groupies are amazing. You should give conservatism some attention for a while.
Like I said the test is whether you will move on from Romney or continue your concentrating on your Romney obsession. My bet is that you will stay with your obvious goal.
