Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will be part of the National Council for a New America, an attempt by leaders in Congress and potential 2012 presidential candidates to rebrand the struggling party.
"I am pleased to announce that Governor Palin has joined the National Council for a New America's panel of experts," said House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) today. "When NCNA was announced last week, we spoke about a dynamic organization that worked to constantly bring in new people and innovative ideas."
. . . . .
Palin's involvement in the group will help rebut the idea that the National Council is an organ of the establishment wing of the party set up to keep the Palins and Gov. Mark Sanford's (S.C.) -- both of whom are more hardline conservatives -- from taking over control of the party.

Ten Chinese divisions surrounded Col. Lewis Berwell Puller's 1st Marines. The indomitable "Chesty" Puller saw the situation with his own brand of logic: "Those poor bastards," he said. "They've got us right where we want them. We can fire in any direction now!"If Romney thinks he has "captured" Palin, he's in big trouble.
Doesn’t matter that much. He’s captured the Republican Party.
Metaphorically speaking.
And Sarah is the Fox in the henhouse. In more ways than one.
Thank you all for your replies. You’ve certainly given me some things to think about.
Admittedly, I’m not in the loop as much as I usually am, and would like to be. I’ve also been guilty in the past of trying to put a happy face on things I don’t like.
Maybe my middle name is “Pollyanna.” ;o)
Thank you all, again.
Oh and the GOP was captured long ago by Romney, McCain and other left leaning pols.
...most of the GOPer's involved in this still want to marginalize her.Like McCain who got a tremendous boost form Sarah as his running mate, they know that they need her to gain attention to their new little club. That's what I see. She doesn't need them, but they need to use her - for now.
I think Palin learned a lot from the way that McCain treated her after he brought her on to just be a pretty face with conservative ideas that he didn't believe in and immediately silenced her.
He got what he wanted. An energetic campaign when Plain was speaking, and Obama as President.
I was just reading this..Sarah has NO plans on even doing any events with this group..
From Sean Cockerham in Anchorage -—
As is often the case, there is a lot of national confusion about what Gov. Sarah Palin is doing. National bloggers made much in recent days of the fact that Palin hadnt joined the new Republican group, the National Council for a New America.
Heres how Politico blogger Ben Smith put it yesterday: The governor’s absence from the new group produced, alternately, suggestions that she’s “snubbing” it, and attacks on its leaders for leaving her out. Earlier this afternoon, a spokesman for Rep. Eric Cantor, who’s spearheading the Council, said he hadn’t heard from Palin.
Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton then said Palin would indeed join the GOP group. That inspired an Associated Press story declaring that Palin has joined a list of Republicans who will take part in listening tours across the country.
So, I asked Stapleton, is Palin heading out on a listening tour?
No, she said, Palin’s not going on tour and has no events scheduled with the group.
Ok.
What is Palin doing this weekend? National blogs are reporting as fact shes going to be Fox News guest at the White House Correspondents dinner in Washington D.C. I asked Stapleton if thats so.
The response:
The Governor may be on the East Coast this weekend to attend state events and meetings. If she is there, the Governor may accept one of the standing invitations for dinner.
The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute certainly seems to think Palin will be on the East Coast this weekend. The Alaska House, a non-profit arts and culture center in New York, has been advertising for weeks that invitees can come sample wild Alaska seafood with Palin on Friday night at an ASMI event there.
That’s GREAT news! Thank you!
I hope Haley Barbour and Bobby Jindal follow her lead.
I just saw something about that! You were right.
Thank you!
Don't know how true this is.
