Palin To Be Part of National Council [Cantor's office confirms]
The Washington Post - The Fix ^ | 2009-05-04 | Chris Cilizza

Posted on 05/04/2009 3:55:27 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will be part of the National Council for a New America, an attempt by leaders in Congress and potential 2012 presidential candidates to rebrand the struggling party.

"I am pleased to announce that Governor Palin has joined the National Council for a New America's panel of experts," said House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) today. "When NCNA was announced last week, we spoke about a dynamic organization that worked to constantly bring in new people and innovative ideas."

. . . . .

Palin's involvement in the group will help rebut the idea that the National Council is an organ of the establishment wing of the party set up to keep the Palins and Gov. Mark Sanford's (S.C.) -- both of whom are more hardline conservatives -- from taking over control of the party.

This is completely demoralizing, like getting punched in the stomach and having the wind knocked out of you.

This is astounding, you are the party chairman of one the almost 50 third parties that wants to bring her down and defeat GOP candidates in elections and you are still pretending that you support her?

The man you work for, the perennial candidate Alan Keyes, is trying to fulfill his fantasy of winning an election by defeating her or any other leader of Reagan's party in the race for the presidency.

I hope her plan includes what I would call the Pitbull Plan! i.e. Chewing them up and turning them into excrement!

FYI -- these are Meg Stapleton's words (from the Politico article on this):
Palin "looks forward to doing all she can to bring about positive change many desire and deserve, across Alaska and our great nation, through this National Council for a New America and others," Meghan Stapleton, a spokeswoman for SarahPAC, said in an e-mail.

Stapleton said Palin plans to be involved with the group "as long as everyone knows that Alaska always comes first."

Palin "is focused on moving Alaska forward and pushing for her goals which include providing energy independence and security for Alaskans and Americans," she said.

I read this as an intent to cooperate on her terms -- when, where and how she wants -- but it also signals that she knows she has to engage with the national party. Time will tell if her timing is right.

Like you, I have reservations but I think she knows the score here. If she allows them to use her, she's a fool. I don't think she is and Stapleton's words made no commitment as to when or where she will show up at any of these events.

The RINOs, desperate for attention, will now try and pin her down on that.

"Palin will now have a national platform to show the contrasts between herself, and the Rinos in the same arena!"

Now THAT would be a good strategy!

I worry about Palin getting this close to the pod people.

After she is forced to chant “We can out-Democrat the Democrats! Yes we can!” for several hours, she may never be the same.

Rush Limbaugh has been a Palin supporter from her first speech, as have I. He says that she is just as conservative as Reagan!

THAT is high praise indeed!

If she plays her cards the way she knows how, she will beat any of the Rinos!

Gov. Palin is not in me too mode with this bunch.

This is a great way to get her conservative message out.

Limbaugh defended Palin and heralded her as the “most prominent and articulate voice” for conservatism.

Maybe Ma Palin can influence this National Panel of Experts and and be an asset to this group.

Our National Panel of Experts:

Governor Haley Barbour
Governor Jeb Bush
Governor Bobby Jindal
Senator John McCain
Governor Mitt Romney

These are not the only issue areas where we will engage America, but they form a starting point in our revitalization effort. In the coming months, the NCNA will focus our attention outside of Washington where American families are living and raising their children, working toward the promise of a better tomorrow, and where common-sense ideals are valued over pundits and the political winds. We know America’s best days are ahead, but we need to work hard to ensure that promise. We also know that the American people want choices and alternatives – that there is no one right solution for what America and its people need. This is what our country was founded on, this is what we stand for, this is what we hope the National Council for a New America will provide and we ask our fellow citizens to join with us.

Sincerely,

John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Mike Pence, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, John Carter, Pete Sessions, David Dreier, Kevin McCarthy, Roy Blunt, Mitch McConnell, Jon Kyl, Lamar Alexander, John Cornyn, John Thune, Kay Bailey Hutchison

“especially after what they said about her yesterday”

They said nothing about her. Palin again shows she has good judgment.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall to observe conversations between her and Kay Baily — since KB seems to love voting for abortions and Palin is definitely pro-life.

I know, that is what I was telling you in post 29.

EV’s post was just above yours and being engaged in another task off computer I mixed them up, sorry, although you probably figured it out pretty quickly.

Reading Stapleton's words does convey a measured, equivocal, support for the Council.

Al, you are probably right that she is determined to do it on her terms.

As you say, she is no fool. And she, of all people in this game, knows the true nature of her adversaries.

I am going to enjoy seeing these fools continue to have baseball team numbers show up for their pathetic events. And see their faces when SP makes her first appearance and brings out the folks by the thousands !

mick, I just heard a rumbling she may be at the WH Correspondents' Dinner Saturday night in DC. Can't confirm it yet.

Guess she figures if they're going to make nasty jokes about her, they'll have to do it to her face. Woman is fearless. :)

Stay tuned...she may be darting in to the lower 48 in a few days. Zero will not be happy to share the spotlight with her if she comes to that Press dinner. LOL.

One more thing Al. And I will say this in open forum

The biggest snake in that group is Haley Barbour. I know he is the darling of many conservatives and freepers. And he thinks of himself as having a viable shot at POTUS

But I know this man. When my son got out of the Marine Corps he was elected as National Chairman of the College Republicans. It was 1993 and Barbour was RNC Chairmen. And Barbour immediately tried to take over the CR's and force them to tow the RINO line during the Clinton first term. It's a long story that I have laid out a few months ago on another thread here at FR against this corrupt person. Now is not the time to go into it.

But if or when he takes his shot at SP I will open this up again. He is the worst type of corrupt lobbyist turned public official. He talks the talk of true conservatism but at his core he is all about money for himself and his cronies. Nuff said for now. Have a good night!
