Yeah, great acting I’m sure, definitely on the scale of CASABLANCA, ON THE WATER FRONT, GONE WITH THE WIND, et. al. Its just a fast action film with computer generated special effects, like an up graded video game. The stars are the effects. I guess I’m too old to appreciate these movies. I find watching them in a theater as disturbing to my ears, as the guy in the next lane of traffic, with his super bass speakers blasting. And, I don’t wear a hearing aid!

You don’t even need the stars.

Benjamin Button is a movie where the main charater is CGI through much of the movie’s early parts.

Eventually we WILL have new moview with John Wayne and Bogart and event Ronald Reagan. The question is how the PC lunatics in hollyweird will direct them.

so cobra uses nanites(?) to tear down the eiffel tower and then calls for help (after surrendering) from ... somebody OTHER THAN the USA.

How very EU of the french.

I mostly agree with you. I much prefer the old classic American films to most of today's Hollywood product. CGI is an interesting creation and I don't object to them using it to help a storyline, but when it becomes the storyline I lose interest.

CGI was used heavily in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but they had a real storyline there with good performances by real actors and actresses. The CGI aided the story rather than overwhelming it. I was also pleasantly surprised that they didn't ideologically corrupt the story. It remained a tale of different peoples, each with their own local turf, fighting against an evil attempt at world government. When Frodo felt he couldn't go on, Sam gave him a Ronald Reagan type speech. The bad guys were even involved in genetic engineering. It was all done so well that it went over the heads of the Hollywood lefties and became not only a hit, but an acclaimed series.

But for the most part CGI is overused. Regarding the amazing live action castle-storming sequence in Kurosawa's Ran, it's been noted that such a scene might never be filmed again. It required the construction of a huge castle fortification, and the costuming of thousands of soldiers, hundreds of horses, etc. It was all done with real people and real horses and real buildings. Today, they'd just CGI the whole thing.

I’d rather watch Second Hand Lions, Taking Chance, Disney’s The Kid with Bruce Willis, Broken Trail, etc.
