MADRID/GENEVA (Reuters) The World Health Organization is likely to raise its flu alert to the top of its six-point scale and declare a pandemic, its director-general indicated in an interview published on Monday.
In remarks setting the scene for another alert increase, but without saying when, WHO chief Margaret Chan warned against over-confidence following a stabilization in the number of new cases of the H1N1 strain that has proved deadly in Mexico.
"Level 6 does not mean, in any way, that we are facing the end of the world. It is important to make this clear because (otherwise) when we announce level 6 it will cause an unnecessary panic," she told Spanish newspaper El Pais.
"Flu viruses are very unpredictable, very deceptive ... We should not be over-confident. One must not give H1N1 the opportunity to mix with other viruses. That is why we are on alert."
The WHO's pandemic phases reflect views about how a virus is spreading, and not how severe its effects are.

Are there few/no new cases/deaths, or is it underwraps? Because last I heard the CDC was keeping this under wraps from some Freepers, according to their sources...
I keep wondering what is going on since some say oh it’s not that bad well they closed my granddaughters school and my daughter found over the weekend when the health dept. left 3 messages for her to call them since a confirmed case was found in my oldest granddaughters classroom.

And they were telling him not to sneeze!

Its about the potential. So far the virus has been a low grade irritant, but a novel flu virus has the potential to be a major disaster because of abseteeism.
Once we have a vaccine, the potential declines to normal pain in the seat flu.

Or is this going to be used to push through 0bama’s or HR Clinton's Universal Health Care?
Something seems very odoriferous to me.
At first, Martin Melchor didn’t take Mexico’s flu epidemic all that seriously.
But then, this week, a wealthy 33-year-old neighbour died of the virus at a private hospital around the corner from Mr. Melchor’s Mexico City apartment. Next, he met the grieving relatives of a second flu victim: a healthy 25-year-old woman who died Tuesday at the National Institute of Respiratory Illnesses.
Suddenly, the horror became real.
“She had two young kids and her relatives were all there crying in the hospital. She was only sick for a day,” Mr. Melchor said in a phone interview from the Mexican capital.
Mr. Melchor is hoping to leave the capital today and fly to Arizona, where his wife is. He is worried about his daughter catching a cold on the plane. But, he says, at least that’s a concern he can manage - unlike the terror of something unknown, a new flu strain even scientists don’t yet understand.

Of course he wants to fly here and bring whatever germs he’s carrying with him.
Don’t close the borders, we need the international travel (of germs).

Why isn’t this called the MEXICAN FLU just like the ASIAN FLU?
5/1 These are the remaining states with NO suspected/probable or confirmed cases:
Alaska
Montana
North Dakota
Oklahoma
Vermont
Wyoming
He's a great guitarist and songwriter and all, but what does Pete Townshend know about the flu?
The numbers affected and the general lack of severity of most cases DOES NOT WARRANT such a call. She’s working for Obama.
