British Princess Attacked (Eugenie, granddaughter of the Queen, sixth in line to throne)

LONDON - THIEVES tried to rob Queen Elizabeth II's 19-year-old granddaughter, Princess Eugenie, and her friends while they were travelling in Cambodia, a British newspaper reported on Monday.

Royal protection officers had to intervene to protect the princess, the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, when a thief tried to steal her friend's purse as they walked through Phnom Penh one night, the Sun said.

The two officers tackled the thief but were pelted with stones by another man, forcing them to let him go and focus on getting the princess to safety.

They also managed to retrieve the purse.

The Sun said it was the first time in ten years that protection officers have stopped a direct threat to a member of the royal family.

I know Eugenie quite well - nice girl. I might be a sexist, but I’m honestly not sure about 19 year old girls travelling around Asia like this. At least she has bodyguards.

I'm not sure it was a good idea for her bodyguards to leave her unprotected, even if it was for a short time. How could they know this was not a diversion to draw them away from her?

Geez, let them have the damn purse.

Eugenie...what a great name. Reminds of the Eugenie of France who dallied in politics because hubby King Louis was sleeping with other women. She effected the invasion of Mexico and placement of Maximilian on the throne to reestablish a catholic monarchy in Mexico. Bad move. Got Maximilian killed in the process.

It reminds me of the fact that the catholic church owned nearly half of all the land in Mexico prior to the conflict on which they paid not a dime in property taxes. Benito Juarez confiscated all the lands on which a church building did not sit and gave it back to the people.
