“He lost his limbs serving his country in Vietnam. That makes him a hero in my book.

Then you clearly have low standards...”

Really?

“Those who put themselves in danger on our behalf deserve our respect.

Get thee to the DU, you’re on the wrong website.”

I’m sorry. Let me correct myself. We should not respect those who put themselves in danger on our behalf.
Okay?

Wise up Sparky, your haphazard approach to 'respecting' those that you believe put themselves in danger on our behalf is in fact insulting to those who truly were in danger, paid the price (sometimes fatal) and if you equate a bonehead move like picking up an unexploded grenade WHILE UNDER ENEMY FIRE (which is exactly what Cleland did), with a true act of heroism (example, crawling on your hands and knees through sniper and artillery fire to rescue your wounded buddies), then your priorities aren't just screwed up, they're non-existent.

By your logic, the suicide jumper who leaps off a suspension bridge into the water below is every bit the hero as the rescue workers who are trying to talk him out of it, after all, they ALL had to climb way up high, right?

Give your damn head a shake.
