Penicillin comes from Penicillium mold. The next time you get strep throat or tuberculosis, cut yourself off a piece of Gorgonzola cheese and let me know how that works out for you.

Good example. There are about 200 species of Penicillium, only a few of which produce the chemical penicillin.

Even after the discovery of penicillin and its antibiotic properties, it took 15 years of desperate effort to produce it in concentrations and quantities large enough to actually treat people.

Eat all the Penicillium you want, some species might even have some health benefits. (Others are extremely toxic, even deadly.) But you won't get enough penicillin to do you any good.
