...might be a good thing...if the taliban got dangerously close to acquiring pak’s nukes. Then we would be forced to do something about it.

The prospect of a nuclear Taliban will require a true worldwide effort to stop. Unfortunately, a worldwide effort will require a leader who can pull together various countries who are less than willing to act. The obvious choice for such a leader would usually be the President of the United States, but the current occupant has been spending his time telling the world that the US is nothing special and apologizing for our acting like a superpower in the past. Therefore, even if 0bama is told that he can no longer vote present on the situation, nobody is going to be willing to follow and take the necessary action to prevent the worst from happening.
