And by that, hopefully, will put to bed -- finally -- the Great White Horse Hope -- the false prophesy uttered by Latter-Day founder J. Smith that the constitution would hang by a thread, and that the Mormons would come to the rescue...Well, he got the first part right. We'll just have to wait to see how the second plays out.

How? He was speaking of HIS own presidential race (1844). Only later, after he was killed in a gunfight did the LDS leadership start applying it to others.
