Mitt Romney said: "I think there are a lot more influential Republicans than that would suggest. But was that the issue on the most beautiful people or the most influential people? I'm not sure. If it's the most beautiful, I understand." I read this as a backhanded negative comment directed to Sarah Palin, just like the CPAC comment was. He's intimating that she isn't influential and only beautiful.
Like she's just another pretty face! This is marginalization of her experience and leadership!

No, it wasn’t a slap at Palin...following the order of his statement, Romney basically said there weren’t nearly enough Republicans on the list, but if the list was merely a beauty contest, he understood it...Limbaugh and Palin are the biggest Republican celebrities around at this time, that’s just a fact...magritte

I read it as a slap at the rest of the list, not specifically Republicans, since he seemed to be complaining that there weren't enough Republicans.
