I know Ive said this before on the site, and I know many devout Catholics experiences are different, but having grown up in the Church, theres nothing here that surprises me. Most Catholics I know treat the Churchs commands as essentially hortatory, to be politely ignored when need be as in the case of torture which is why I cant quite fathom the outrage over a pro-choicer as adamant as The One speaking at Notre Dame. His job approval this month among Catholics is 70 percent, and 65 percent among those who attend church weekly. Theyre fighting a losing battle here.

Waterboarding and making someone uncomfortable is NOT torture. What Saddam Hussein and Company, the Nazis, Soviets, etc, did was torture.
Bear in mind that much of the influence coming from Catholic ‘priests’ over the past few decades has been from faggots who infiltrated the priesthood.
i live in the south and a 67 year old neighbor lady who is catholic just loves nobam...says no one could do better...yea these are some folks who aren’t too bright
Sadly, the Catholic church for many is nothing more than an elaborate social gathering. Their parents did it, so they do it too. Never mind the responsibilities that come with being Catholic.
This is based on a Gallup Poll, which is linked at Allahpundit.
Before we get too het up about it, let’s just say that the poll is extreme suspicious. I can well believe that, as the poll says, Obama is wildly popular among Muslims. Other than that, I think it’s hogwash.
I am a Catholic and I think Obama is a puppet head controlled by Axelrod and Emanuel. I think that the people just wanted to get rid of the Republicans because Bush sent all of our jobs overseas while allowing tens of millions of illegals come into the USA to take the few jobs that were left. Something had to give. The only problem is that Obama is worse than Bush. He has not done anything except to keep things the same as Bush. I’m glad the banks were able to get some help because Obama certainly has not done anything to help the people who need jobs.
Well they’re going to get it “good and hard”.
Glad I don’t live in a big city...
Any true Catholic who understands their faith couldn’t possibly accept Obama on several issues, but certainly the abortion issue easily stands out. Cultural Catholics who have no sense of Catholic teachings on the subject of the sacredness of human life from the moment of conception until natural death), also probably think divorce is ok (if the marriage was church sanctioned, homosexual acts are ok (the Church does not condemn homosexuals, but it does their acts; the same with fornication amongst members of the opposite sex) etc. These so-called Catholics (Kennedy, Pelosi, etc.) are not Catholics in practice or in what they espouse. They are cradle Catholics, born and baptized but for purposes of earthly gain, cast aside the toughest elements of the faith, that is, to reject what the world offers and follow Christ. They’re hypocrites, at best, and at worst, Satan’s allies leading gullible or stupid people down the road to hell. Paved with good intentions, of course.
Catholic’s are into the social programs dems give. Although I thought the republican-democrat ratio would be a LITTLE better.
If true.. well thats a scandal..
As scandalous as Jews supporting the Zero..
No doubt Zero depises Jews as much as Roman Catholics..
Remember 1980: 23% interest rates,15% inflation
41% still voted for Carter.
I don’t see any info on who did the polling.
I have been seriously considering joining the Catholic Church. Although I know my relationship with God is between him and I, are these the type of people I will be sitting next to in the Church?
Yes, they are. This is why liberation theology flourished in Central & South America...Catholics are generally suckers for socialism.
Yeah, like the Poles for example!
Yes, you should join the Catholic Church. Most Catholics that I know are Conservative and Pro-life. Newt Gingrich recently became a Catholic. So did Laura Ingraham, Robert Novak, and Judge Bork. Come on in, the water is fine!
At our church the priest often speaks out against capital punishment, but against abortion...rarely. I can’t recall when I last heard. When there’s a pro-life event it’s mentioned along with the bingo and the picnic, as if to say, “join us in doing something recreational, optional and not particularly serious.” Whereas I’d like to hear, “if you think abortion’s ok, kindly stay away from the Host until you work the bugs out of your soul.” Or “if you support pro-abortion politicians, you’re supporting murder.” Or “abortion is capital punishment of the innocent.” None of these things ever get said.
So if the sheep are straying, the shepherds must take some of the blame.
