The only problems I see with this are: (1) the stuff will go bad unless you keep rotating it and if he’s stockpiled that much, rotation is going to be difficult; and (2) the Bible tells us not to horde. I know. I know. I know what you are probably thinking. Honestly, I have thought very seriously about this. Imagine you have been stockpiling, or what the Bible calls “hording” for the day of reckoning or whatever and now you have this huge cache of food; meanwhile someone is going to find out and come acalling for help - how do you turn people down? Really? Sure, you can point the muzzle of a gun at them and tell them to get off your property but what if it’s people you love - friends, relatives, etc. It’s a very unappealing position to put oneself in. Of course, the idea of starving is not very appealing either.
The Bible also gives many examples of being prepared for difficult times and even says that someone who does not provide for his family is worse than an infidel. I think that many Christian “preppers” do think about what they will do if/when needy people come looking for food and supplies. One man I know buys old back packs and the like and has begun stocking them with things like an old blanket, #10 can of soup mix, first aid kit, etc. so he WILL have something to share.
So many that I got to know so well (and still know), what if they were young men like that, could I actually pull the trigger?
And so, at least for me in that scenario, the answer was...no.
My wife thinks I’m wasting time and money. We are Christian and in fact my father inlaw is pastor of our Southern Baptist church. We believe that the only way to heaven is through our Lord Jesus Christ. As far as how we get there is up to faith.
My church and my family believe that we will be raptured out before the tribulation. I pray that will happen. However, to me, scripture is not totally clear on this as it is on other things. I have read the bible several times and in my humble opinion God’s word is true, every single word.
It’s like I tell my wife, I pray for the first train out. If we are meant to live through tribulation, we are ready. Powder is dry no matter which way God has planned.
now you have this huge cache of food; meanwhile someone is going to find out and come a calling for help...
I'm not at all familiar with that. Do you have a verse reference?
Stockpiling useful things isn’t hoarding. Anyone not prepared is deemed to suffer.
Why would you conclude that the people you love would be the ones coming to steal your supplies? If they are there to take what you have the forethought to save up and in turn starve you and your family, then they ain’t your loved ones.
This load of weak-kneed compassionate conservatism is what got us in this mess!
I don’t horde, I prepare. I stock up to alleviate the problem, if there is a shortage then I’m fine and others who need it can have it.
Unless we have some kind of huge nuclear blast there will things out there it just may not be what you normally like. If transportation is interupted you’ll have to try to get what you can locally.
I have actually told all my family and close friends that if there is a problem they need to come here and we’ll survive together, but to please bring a trailer or RV because I don’t have enough room in my house for all of them but I’ve got 640 acres and 7 wells.
I’m not hording for God’s day of reckoning, that doesn’t scare me at all but I believe that being prepared to survive what may come whether it is a natural disaster or man-made disaster, is just prudent.
I would hope I would be able to feed more people if I was very prepared.
