I know this sounds gross, but its actually not a very bad thing at all. I only wash my hair very occasionally too.

The simple fact is that human hair naturally looks after itself. Your scalp produces natural oils that clean and maintain your hair. We’ve all been suckered into believing that we are filthy and that we stink and we desperately need all these chemicals on our heads on a regular basis. We don’t. You need to dowse your hair with water on a regular basis to get rid of dust and such, but you dont need to put shampoo onto your hair. Every other month will do, certainly for men. For women, because their hair tends to be finer, possibly more.

Its like all this hair conditioner that people use, revitalift and garnier nutritioner or whatever dim name the ad men come up with. Very few people actually need hair conditioner. Most of those that do only need it to repair the damage that all the shampoo and the dye and the other rubbish they are using is doing.

Right, and after a day my hair looks like an oil slick. Am I supposed to go around looking like I dunked my head in WD-40 all the time?

It doesn’t seem that long ago that shower caps were common so people wouldn’t get their hair wet in the shower - I still see them used in old movies and TV shows. Shampooing was rare. I don’t remember washing my hair much when I was a teenager with a fairly long DA, maybe the grease protected it?
Today I couldn’t go for more than a couple days - my scalp starts itching. If I didn’t use a conditioner I’d never get a brush or comb through it when I got out of the shower.

Interesting...in my case my hair is so wavy I need to wash it in the morning or it looks like a Brillo pad. My wife teases me about the bed-head I get in the morning. :)

I am trying to wean myself from shampoo too : the sulfates and 'cones in them strip the hair of needed proteins and amino acids-which are then replaced by conditioners (which wouldn't be needed if it weren't for the stripping in the first place.) Quite a scam, eh?

On days I am not going anywhere (1-2 times a week) I just thoroughly run water through my hair. 3-4 times a week, I use conditioner only : Cut with water and 'frothed up' first (it 'feels like' it's being shampooed then-psychological thing. Then once a week I use a gentle (so called "daily") clarifying shampoo , mainly to remove styling product build up.

Since I started this, my oily roots have dried up and my dry ends have become much less brittle or "crunchy" (I am growing out a perm). The appearance, texture, and yes, scent of my hair is much improved.

I just wish I'd done this years ago-I think hair needs to be washed daily, but it does NOT need to be washed with a bunch of harsh chemicals.

I heard a guy say all his male relatives are near or bald but he didn’t use shampoo which allows him to keep his hair?
