He’s milking it for all it’s worth.
I just don’t get it. We’ve had flu outbreaks in our local schools every year. We’ve had as much as 25% absent in primary, high school, and university. The schools have never been closed for any illness, or even lice or scabies epidemics. What is so different this time? This flu seems pretty mild, comparatively.
I caught flu last year from students at the university where I work. Missed a week of work and had to bring in a doctor’s excuse when I came back. The doctor didn’t want to see me and FAXed over the excuse. By then there was no one in the office to pick up the FAX because they all had the flu. I got to be the sole person for the next week covering the entire office. No one even thought of closing the school. We did cancel a few classes when the profs were sick, or else I handed out assignments and collected them, but we stayed open.
I just don’t understand why closing the school is necessary. Do they think all those kids and their parents are going to stay in their houses and not expose anyone else or get exposed themselves during their vacation?
