I have noticed NO ONE is reporting EXACT CAUSE of death of these supposed swine flu deaths. Dehydration???

Tamiflu is a preventative only and I am sure the pharma makers of this are getting rich.

Even if it comes back in the fall, there will have been time to work on a vaccine for this strain.

Medical care in 1918 was almost nonexistent by today’s standards.

They didn’t have antibiotics to treat secondary infections in 1918.

The majority of patients died of secondary infections.

Only problem there is that there is no vaccine for this yet. They are working on developing it.

Today AZ Dept of Health gave a presser at 1 PM, said CDC has provided new equipment for testing which will make the process more efficient. They also said there will be MORE cases confirmed as they get through the testing process.

People need to understand that this flu is still relatively new, and from what I have learned, the experts are concerned because humans don’t have much immunity to swine influenza. The danger comes when it mutates and becomes stronger in the coming waves. (Experts are concerned because it is moving with rapid human to human transmission.)

Regular flu shots will do very little if anything to protect against this flu.

I have to admit, I was pretty scared for a while. Then a couple of FReepers brought that up and I looked into it.

I’ve been telling everyone since it started that it would fizzle.

There were no flu vaccines or anti-viral drugs in 1918. There weren’t even any antibiotics in 1918.

Not to mention the fact that hygine wasn't what it is today. Most people didn't have indoor plumbing, antibacterial soap didn't exist. Military men were hit especially hard because they were living in close quarters exposed to the elements. There was a lot of global travel despite the pre airline days due to the war.

There were a lot of contributing factors that made it especially bad in 1918.

One flu expert says there's no reason to believe the new virus is a more serious strain than seasonal flu.

Perhaps you missed those planes slamming into the World Trade Center. Or are you subscribing to the theory that Bush staged that event on purpose?

Every year there is a new one. I believe they screwed up the flu shots last year and folks got the wrong one. I got the flu more and worse when I got the shots.

>>I have noticed NO ONE is reporting EXACT CAUSE of death of these supposed swine flu deaths. Dehydration???<<

I think they want to keep it vague.
I’ve heard, cough, sneezing, runny nose, chest congestion, vomiting, diarrhea, hoarseness.

Let’s face it, ANY flu could fit in there!

I didn’t even consider how many servicemen we lost to the flu epidemic until you posted your comment.
I don’t know the numbers but many died. God bless them.

Don’t say that out loud.
I’ve been ripped a new one by FReepers for saying the exact same thing.

Swine flu virus starting to look less threatening

While everyone was talking about this little flu, the democrats were passing another 3 trillion dollar spending package and hate crimes legislation in the house.

Gosh. The press must have missed it. There was a big bug out there.

And let’s not forget that in 1918 the flu spread as rapidly as possible given the mode of transportation of the day. With today’s airline travel the 1918 would have been a worldwide pandemic in under 24 hours, the only thing spreading at an alarming rate here is the hype.

This has all the signs and highlights of being a terrorist dry run. You would think someone would do some serious investigation and reporting on the issue instead of so much speculation.

Check out the CDC descriptions of the phases of a pandemic, especially pay attention to the difference between phase 5 (where we are now and phase 6 which they should have already announced based upon their own guidelines.)

We are definately seeing SUSTAINED HUMAN TO HUMAN TRANSMISSION.

Phase 6: Pandemic: increased and sustained transmission in general population.

Stages of a Pandemic

http://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic/phases.htm

The World Health Organization (WHO) has developed a global influenza preparedness plan, which defines the stages of a pandemic, outlines the role of WHO, and makes recommendations for national measures before and during a pandemic. The phases are:

Interpandemic period
Phase 1 : No new influenza virus subtypes have been detected in humans. An influenza virus subtype that has caused human infection may be present in animals. If present in animals, the risk of human infection or disease is considered to be low.

Phase 2: No new influenza virus subtypes have been detected in humans. However, a circulating animal influenza virus subtype poses a substantial risk of human disease.

Pandemic alert period
Phase 3: Human infection(s) with a new subtype but no human-to-human spread, or at most rare instances of spread to a close contact.

Phase 4: Small cluster(s) with limited human-to-human transmission but spread is highly localized, suggesting that the virus is not well adapted to humans.

Phase 5: Larger cluster(s) but human-to-human spread still localized, suggesting that the virus is becoming increasingly better adapted to humans but may not yet be fully transmissible (substantial pandemic risk).

Pandemic period
Phase 6: Pandemic: increased and sustained transmission in general population.

Notes: The distinction between phases 1 and 2 is based on the risk of human infection or disease resulting from circulating strains in animals. The distinction is based on various factors and their relative importance according to current scientific knowledge. Factors may include pathogenicity in animals and humans, occurrence in domesticated animals and livestock or only in wildlife, whether the virus is enzootic or epizootic, geographically localized or widespread, and other scientific parameters.

The distinction among phases 3, 4, and 5 is based on an assessment of the risk of a pandemic. Various factors and their relative importance according to current scientific knowledge may be considered. Factors may include rate of transmission, geographical location and spread, severity of illness, presence of genes from human strains (if derived from an animal strain), and other scientific parameters.

Well it is the truth. I was required to get the flu shots for years due to my job and always got sick for days after the shots. Now I get no flu because no shots.

In fairness though, the flu victims were susceptible to secondary infections because their immune system’s response to the virus had destroyed the lining of their lungs.

So, yeah, after your lungs are destroyed they can treat the secondary infection. Better hope one of the 100,000 ventilators in this country has your name on it in the meantime.
