Group of Florida Activists Ask Marion Thorpe to Withdraw from US Senate Race Amid Allegations of Check Bouncing and of Requesting Funds to Pay Child Support

Local activists urge long shot Marion Thorpe to abandon US Senate race, claim that he’s disgraced the contest.

Marion Thorpe had no major endorsers statewide to begin with but efforts were being made to obtain them. Then on Monday, American Daily Review broke a story of Marion Thorpe having bounced two checks on his printer for his congressional campaign. Each check was allegedly for about $5,000. Soon after, emails surfaced in Thorpe’s own words in which he requested PAC money to make achild support payments, which he explained was technically repayment of a loan to himself since he had loaned himself $30,000.00 during his congressional race.

Spoke with the editor. This was after a very thorough investigation by American Daily Review, including statements from 3 senior past and current campaign staff, questions to Thorpe himself and first hand interviews with business people. The behavior was truly shameful. Emails from Dr. Thorpe were also seen.

Also spoke with several Republican activists in South Florida who know him. People were shocked he entered the Senate race and everyone felt there was something wrong with him. Then the checks story hit and emails came out from him that were terrible. Apparently he was using a company laptop that was in dispute and that gave them automatic access to the emails.

People also feel that since he campaigned vigorously against the "George W. Bush agenda" in the last campaign his claim to conservatism was a farce. That and the fact that he'd never discuss specifics and refused to address the abortion issue altogether until mere months ago. He also claims to have been Florida's Chief Medical Officer - but the state never had such a position. The campaign's explanation to that is that he was the Chief Medical Officer of one agency run by the state.... But that's not what they're putting out there.

Got my fingers crossed, hoping this loser you’re describing doesn’t call himself a Republican...

Soon after, emails that had been sent to the press were posted on a blog - http://marionthorpe.wordpress.com/2009/04/28/marion-thorpe-disgraceful-emails/
I called the number on one and Thorpe’s attendance at the Arab American Institute was verified. Some “conservative candidate.”

It’s a shame we have these jokers at a time that we desperately need conservatives. Rumor is that he’s in the race to shave a point or two - and take Ron Paul like activists away from another conservative candidate.

The County Chairs are livid. Candidates near him can't stand him. Allen West, a true war hero, apparently didn't say much but implied that he's glad that the truth came out about this fake and said that he tried to warn people to stay away from him before. The guy issued a statement about the Swine Flu today subtitled: "Florida’s Former Chief Medical Officer and Candidate for US Senate weighs in on Swine Flu" Florida never had a Chief Medical Officer . The guy's trying to take advantage of the Swine Flu. It's insane. And yes, he's a nominal Republican who bashed GWBush all through last year while praising Jeb at Republican meetings (Jeb wants nothing to do with him). He ran against Alcee Hastings last time and got a whopping 18%. He said Alcee threatened his life and Alcee said that all that he did was say that Thorpe failed to pay child support http://www.palmbeachpost.com/local_news/content/local_news/epaper/2008/11/04/1104cong.html. Don't know whether to believe Alcee or this joker. Both are so full of integrity.

Also, some say that Charlie Crist wants him in the race just in case he decides to enter. He wants this dingbat to take 1 or 2% of the vote away from a real conservative candidate as well as some activists who don’t know much about him.

It’s a good idea to warn conservatives in Florida about this man. I don’t know why some fell for him. The child support stuff’s been out there since Novmbr.

Personally I doubt Charlie’s involvement though. Charlie’s a RINO but has a lot of support and likely wouldn’t want to associate with this guy. I do hope that someone else runs though.
