Even FR needs to get its act together and settle on a candidate in 2012 - FR members can make a huge difference and can do even more to support the right person.

That's the obvious way to look at it, but what's obvious isn't always complete. The COMPLETE picture includes a liberal Republican, Romney, who has lots of money, has bought or schmoozed his way into places of power in the GOP hierarchy, and is apparently determined to get the presidential nomination. Romney alone is a huge drain on the money and resources of every single truly conservative candidate we FReepers would like to see put up as a possibility -- Palin, Jindal, Sanford, come to mind right off the top. Romney STANDS IN THEIR WAY, though he pretends to support them.

It is silliness of any poster to talk about a "100 percent acceptable candidate," because that only happens under dictatorships. What we are really dealing with here is a candidate that is 51-percent-or-more in acceptability, and certainly Romney fails that. It isn't that Romney is the lesser of evils -- he IS symptomatic of the evil, he IS symptomatic of the problem, and for that reason, he needs to be rejected if the GOP wants to proceed to finding the right candidate who will take us and our nation to victory.

Ousting Romney must be part of finding the right candidate. It is poor judgement to think we can just leave him where he is until we find someone better. Left where he is, Romney will do everything in his power to prevent someone better from ever rising to the top.

Jim Robinson isn't with you on the 51% - he wants 100% or nothing.

It's interesting - Jim was a good sport by even responding to my questions, but he's not given up a name or names that we all should at least look at and possibly build up to nomination. Now, perhaps it's a little early but the candidates are out there, they are already politicians, at least those who can actually win - who are they and why can't FR get behind someone early in the game at 100%. That would possibly discourage others from even running?

My fear is that we will go through the same BS as leading up to the 2009 election - end up with no candidate or a McCain type candidate that is simply unacceptable to lots of us, everyone here on a different page and once again Obama as POTUS.

Even you rant against Romney but no names are mentioned that would even be in the 51% category. By the way, I just mentioned Newt and Romney - I'm open to supporting someone that has the 'right' stuff.
