U.S. health officials say almost 100% of the type A H1N1 strain showed resistance to the leading antiviral drug. So far, the influenza season has been mild.
Tamiflu, the most commonly used influenza antiviral and the mainstay of the federal government's emergency drug stockpile, no longer works for the dominant flu strain circulating in much of the country, government officials said Tuesday.
Of samples tested since October, almost 100% of the strain -- known as type A H1N1 -- showed resistance to Tamiflu.
In response, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued new guidelines to physicians in December. Doctors were told to substitute an alternative antiviral, Relenza, for Tamiflu, or to combine Tamiflu with an older antiviral, rimantadine, if the H1N1 virus was the main strain circulating in their communities.
Each flu season, several types of flu viruses circulate, and various ones can dominate in different regions and times. Only the H1N1 virus is showing signs of Tamiflu resistance, CDC officials said, speaking at an influenza conference in Washington. Other flu viruses currently circulating are not Tamiflu-resistant.

Oh great .. more good news.
I am not spreading fear??????
Yes I know that is what publised Feb 4th, that is why I posted it.....
Should we know all the facts and weigh them out????
Could be HIV
Put in your title then on the date. I am so sick of people trying to create this crisis.
I work in the healthcare profession and my company is making all kinds of money on the flu kits we sell. Our business is better in 4 days than it has been in the past 4 months for the flu so I should be the one creating the hysteria.
We are seeing people go into the ER with no symptoms of anything wanting flu tests because of what the media and the US Gov’t has been putting out. Everyone is CYA right now because they would rather be safe than sorry.
The hysteria is ridiculous and the hysteria on FR is embarrassing.
Here is another article about Adverse Reactions...
Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) - Reports of Side Effects & Adverse Reactions

I think we should know all the facts, before they make the vaccine mandatory.
Different flu. Look at the article date. This was the flu circulating the US earlier this year.
A reasonable uh, prudent er, suspicious person could think that, I suppose...
I thought I had.. I apologize...
Yes we do not need hysteria, overblown statistics from the media, just facts...
Hopefully we can find that here.
I think this article is referring to the regular flu, the dominate flu, not the swine flu.
HOWEVER, if a person contracts both viruses, they can combine to speed the resistance of the swine flu and make a deadlier bug.
I’m starting to think that it might be better to catch this bug early before it mutates into something worse or develops resistance to the antivirals.
I’ve been saying the same thing over and over yet the doomers are having a hay day with this (drumbeat of Spanish Flu comparisons, the Bubonic Plague, cytokine storms, 20 - 40 year olds dropping dead...). All of this in the face of an illness that has not killed a single American citizen!
It is beyond embarrassing to see Freepers acting this way...
They didn't make that much from the Roche ADR stock. There was a definite jump from last Friday to Monday's price.
I will not be taking Tamiflu or giving it to my family. It’s dangerous.

You left out, "dogs and cats living together...mass hysteria!"
LOL...Mabey the TOTUS will drop Barry a clue!
LOL...and that too.
The reason this is different is that bad damage is done when a new flu circulates that the population has little immunologic experience with, that is, people are naive to the virus.
Influenza always kills the weak, the infirm, the very old and the very young, but if the protein parts of the virus that induce the immune response are in a new configuration, we're playing catch-up.
Public health officials are in a tough spot: if they don't say too much and all hell breaks loose, they're blamed (and why Napolitano at Homeland Security is making the pronouncements on this is crazy). Or, if they start to ramp up precautions and nothing happens, they're chicken little.
Sorta like the FDA and drug approvals: too fast, and some side effects come out, they're idiots. Too slow, and the Wall St Journal denounces them in an editorial. Life is complicated...
Not the same H1N1 as mexiflu.
I hear you on that....
I recieved an email from a friend who has a friend “that has extensive training in combating bioterrorism concerns, pandemics etc. I am off to heed her advice and buy some extra flu meds!”
Yes, I rolled my eyes at that statment......I wrote back that I am not real concerned and I am still waiting to die from the bird flu of a few years ago.....I also said that about 30,000 people die from regular flu every year so panic is not in my game plan......
